Re: Crafting Anew

Does FK still actually have a coder? I seem to recall Mask (the only one of which I'm aware) having a baby and going on hiatus for at least a short time. The reason I ask is because there is post after post after post here of code change discussions and I don't recall ever seeing anyone with code ac...

Re: Purpose of food clock?

I'd like to take the opportunity of this thread to ask if any other players would enjoy some more survival-oriented elements in the game?

Re: Purpose of food clock?

I enjoy foods too and the logistics of procuring them. I actually prefer to go the other way with MORE realism in the needs of food and water. But I like "Don't Starve" too. :)

Re: Reduce stamina drain for the Underdark

The Underdark is not a cave. The ceiling of the Underdark is nearly a mile above your head in the big caverns. The main method of transportation, according to the sourcebook, is in boats on the many navigable rivers and lakes. In the largest caverns, it is representational of surface terrain with hi...

Re: Penalties for Underdark races on the surface

[quote="Yemin"]Honestly, the number one reason I don't go to the underdark isn't the danger but the 30% ore more stamina drain. I know it can be avoided to a degree, but doing so makes my mental map spin.[/quote I spend an enormous amount of time down there with almost all of my characters but the s...

Re: Reduce stamina drain for the Underdark

The C rooms in the Underdark are gigantic caverns. There's no reason at all that your fly spells don't work there or that they take the movement rate they do. The o rooms are tunnels but it's not clear what sort of tunnels they are ... wide ones you can easily walk in or tight ones that you crawl th...

Re: Max level for ECL races

Contrast both a drow and a svirf to a dwarf. A dwarf has spell AND poison resistance natively. They can see in the dark. They have an entire area built for them alone (just like svirf and drow) AND in terms of roleplay are equally content on the surface or in the Underdark. They can literally go any...

Re: Penalties for Underdark races on the surface

Heh. If you have enough people logged on to your race for an expedition, you have all the interaction you need and no purpose to go to the surface. :) "Good reason" is subjective. Is wanting to find someone to roleplay with considered a good reason? I like the idea of making the Underdark more acces...

Re: Max level for ECL races

Keeping numbers low is a vanity argument, at best. "I'm special and you're not" at its core. It doesn't really have any place. But on the other hand, neither do these giant walls of text from the rulebooks. This isn't tabletop. Nor is it a MUSH where a DM is present at all times to apply rulesets. S...

Re: Penalties for Underdark races on the surface

The big issue I see right off with this as a concept is that this isn't tabletop. You haven't sat down with a group of friends and agreed to play certain characters. If you want interaction then you have to go to where the people are or at least to where they might be. I don't mean hanging out in th...

Re: Max level for ECL races

Another fun idea would be perhaps giving drow more special abilities or skills related to their race such as the ability to cast darkness and skills like hide and poison weapon. Okay, now THAT is brilliant and the path I think we ought to go down. Maybe not worry so much about paper-engineering the...

Re: Penalties for Underdark races on the surface

There are only so many entrances and exits from UD to surface and back. Apply a condition that checks for race of PC entering the room and imposes a timed condition on them that is removed when they enter from the other direction going down. This includes the shadow runner or whatever that ship is ...

Re: Penalties for Underdark races on the surface

Not a huge fan. I can't even think of an easy way to code it unless Mask has a bunch of unused variables attached to each character structure. The only way I can think of to do it is to have a ticker on each Underdark race that counts up when they spend time in an outdoor room and counts down when t...

Re: Dark races and boredom

Oh my. That's long. I'll have to take it in bite size chunks to digest. To start with, I don't know what my expectations were. I can't rightly recall. Essentially a friend said, "Let's all make some deep gnomes" and that's what we did. What we have discovered since though is that the urge to have th...

I don't think I ever noticed that there's a bonus feat at 50. Yeah, that would be a loss.

Re: Max level for ECL races

When I did mine, I bypassed those difficult levels in a well-balanced group. We all leveled up together so we had no issues. I would say that the svirf was the easiest character to level for me since I had constant companions. The fact that you're having fun grinding plus the group xp bonus allowed ...

Re: Max level for ECL races

The problem I see with ECL is not just that it makes leveling more difficult (it does) but that it caps the power level of the character. A drow living hundreds of years cannot become as powerful of a mage as a human living a scant century. That just seems wrong. I would like the ABILITY to become a...
