I think it'd be very nice for healing spells in particular, too. Being as healing spells don't require attack rolls (Except against undead, which can't receive critical hits), I don't believe they would be subject to critical success, and I can find nothing in SRD to suggest otherwise. Also, I would think that whirlwind attack in the first round (IE from hide, sneak, or any kind of obfuscation) would not be prone to sneak attacks, but would allow for the 'flat footed' penalty to AC.
