goblin - suggestions/help

Post by Philias » Fri Sep 21, 2012 8:22 pm

So, it's 60 more kismet to goblin, so I tough I should start gathering some info about these creatures.
-why are they hard to play?
-starting cities/villages?
-recommended class
-overall behaviour
And that kind of things. Also, do I need to get another 200 kismet to play rogue goblin?
Hopefully I can get someone to play with me, so it isn't just running around and talking to NPCs =)
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that once you notice that it tells you absolutely nothing, it's already too late to stop reading it :D

Why they are hard:
Goblins are hard because they are outsiders. No one really wants to be their friend, and they don't really trust anyone.

Their existence is essentially lonesome. People want to kill them all the time. They cannot enter cities, they belong no where.

You cannot enter cities.

Other PC's want to kill you for existing.

You don't get friends to roleplay with really.

Suggestions:

Don't make a goblin until you've leveled a character. In general, things don't even start for a character until level 10. (Guilding, and faithing.) Even so, you should level a character higher before dipping into a high kismet character. I'd say to 50, honestly, but if you're super excited 30-40 would still be helpful. 50 would be best.

The point of a kismet cost is so a player learns about the MUD before dropping into a harder role. Not just commands, but how to play in general. How battles are. What areas are where. Where to learn some things. Discovering simple nuances as a character who is an exotic/unwanted race is a thousand times harder. Especially for a goblin who cannot enter cities. Be sure you feel comfortable enough to explore as a less shiny character before rolling a super character type.

Basically: Don't jump into something because it seems appealing. Use a free kismet character to wander. Do you find a lot of situations a goblin would fit into in your travelling/roleplaying? That's the good time to make it. Going at it from a blank canvas is much, much harder than having experienced and mapped out potentials for a new, hard to play character.

I hope you can find your way, we have had few and far goblins!
Beshaba potatoes.

In addition to all the very good points Mele makes, yes, to play a goblin rogue, you would need the goblin cost, plus the 200 kismet rogue cost, I believe. The 200 kismet wouldn't be consumed, but you have to have it. To my knowledge, all races have a 200 kismet requirement on rogues, because they're harder classes even than normal.

In addition, if you can't enter cities, there wouldn't be many places to train key rogue abilities. In other words, it would be a very very frustrating play for anyone.

Ok, I'll keep that in mind. Maybe start a halforc as my next when I feel like that.

I love goblins. I think that though they are challenging, they're the funniest and most heart wrenching character/races in the forgotten realms. I salute those that take up this rp.

Justice is not neccesarily honourable, it is a tolerable business, in essence you tolerate honour until it impedes justice, then you do what is right.

Spelling is not necessarily correct :)

^This^ finally somebody has gotten inside my head :D
Ok, I now made halforc alt, but accidently at the westgate. What a luck that he is tough enough to travel alone. Just need to find the waterdeep.
