It's lonely in Menzoberranzan

Post by Thoril » Mon Jun 02, 2014 2:02 pm

I have noticed that the Drow community isn't really all that active, nor are there any really 'new' characters coming to Menzoberranzan. It's kinda sad =/, the drow are a dynamic and unique race to RP, not to mention I personally thing Menzo's layout was wrote and coded masterfully. Come down and try out a drow, granted its tough alone, but if there are more drow starting with you, the more interesting the RP, and less tedious the lower levels seem. Lets make the Drow community just a bit larger, and more active. =D

I've been planning on making one but it's really a trade-off to use that much kismet to create a character. Especially when I know nothing about the difficulty of the game down there (knowing me, I'd probably create a weakling that'd never survive!) I also like to bonus people who put significant effort into their roleplay preparation, which eats away at kismet.

Maybe if you're still down there by the end of the summer. :)

I think it is about time that Duranamir returned home to see what the latest crop of academy graduates are like.

I will try and be on my various Drow in and around Menzo to see if we can get some RP going.

If I had to guess, I'd say that the +5 ECL is one of the culprits... that could just be my dark passenger taking over though (he's a powergamer).

I'm not 100% about it mattering in terms of FK mechanics vs. balance, but it would be cool if the system could be changed to be 20 levels base + 10 epic levels and adjust the tabletop exp needed to advance so that it would mesh with a MUD environment... yeah I realize it's insanity, but I can dream. 10th-12th level spells... *drool*

I'm guilty of not making Menzo look like a nice busy place myself.
My dear Valfein is still hanging out in the city... not doing anything because I already have limited playtime and choose rp over training anytime I can... so.. usually my other characters get more love. Which means Valfein doesn't get the training he needs.

My two drow are still somewhere in Menzo both, and now that I don't have classes anymore I might be around more!

I will do my best to get on a proper habit of getting Irridia out more. These last few weeks got away from me but don't worry. I'll be back at it if I have to have you lot remind me repeatedly. ;)

I was lucky to meet Krath Baenre's player today, so there's hope for Menzo yet!

I think there have been quite a few drow being played lately. Quite a bit more than I'm used to seeing actually. The Underdark is a huge place for the amount that log, which is probably why it's so hard to run into them. I try to frequent Menzo as often as I can, maybe log on and check it out once or twice a week. You can normally try and catch me most mornings west coast time.

For me, I think it's a combonation of the +5 ECL and the fact that pretty much anything save the slaves (you know, the ones you had to chase all over the place for hours and hours...?) can all but eat you alive, even after level 12. Yep, I got to 12, died three times, went back to almost 10, and just gave up. Then again, maybe it's simply because I chose a wizard without knowing how few drow there are, especially around the lower levels; soloing a wizard is, well, it's interesting... I'd certainly love to try him out again if there are any lower levels around.

Speaking of that ECL, does anyone know why it's +5? I have a drow from D&D 3.5, and the ECL is only +2... I realize FK doesn't stick strictly to 3.5 rules, though, so maybe that's it. Just curious.

It's because each SRD level = 2.5 FK levels. So a level 50 character is essentially a level 20. Therefore, a +2 LA = 5 levels here.

Ah, that makes sense. I hadn't even thought of the different level systems. Thanks for the clarification!

I can tell you that there are at least 2 lower level drow running amuck! One is on quite frequently. I'm not sure about the other, but he's been around. I think he's had the same issue of trying to solo alone.

However, I can also tell you that some of the "higher" drow have been good about helping as well.

So, come to the coast... we'll get together... have a few laughs!

Ok, I need to add my two cents.

Yes, it can be "lonely" down in Menzo... but there is a system that's in place. I'm not trying to say avoid conflicts, but the roleplay will be greater in quantity if people work together as a confederation (of sorts). For a male drow to openly rebel against the matriarchial society in front of a priestess -- I have to ask "Why did you even make the character?".

To take that same concept, though, and to SECRETLY rise up against the Drow women is fine... but to put a sign on your back that says "I hate Drow women and will disrespect you in public"... well, there will be one less PC in the Menzo.

Probably the lore (and lack of kismet) is why I don't play Drow. I just don't know anything about them. Ironically, I know more about goblin and orc culture than I do Drow.

If a priestess is not pleased with the behaviour of a male, they can/should put them straight by whatever the means that are available to them, priestesses are the natural authority and why not execute some of this authority when necessary? :)

Not to be a killjoy, but this thread was actually inaccurate when it even started. ;)

For the past six plus months there has nearly always been at least two drow on. On a commonly 10-20 person who list, that's a fair amount. :)

ICly, the priestess has every right.

It's the OOC side of me that was torn. A new player, just starting out on the grid -- I don't know if it's a first timer or someone who thought that they'd try playing a Drow as something new. I wanted to encourage RP down in the Menzo. And so I opted to "discipline" with the intent to "correct the bad behavior". And hopefully, I done so. However, there was the Drow Priestess in me that was shouting "Send him to his grave".

If the player had been around and "knew better", then I wouldn't hesitate -- but I didn't know that or wasn't sure what to expect from the OOC side of things. PvP stuff and all.

I hope I'm making sense. Sometimes I just ramble (those who know/knew Aysa the PC would know this all too well).
