Great Role-Play

Postby Harroghty » Sat Aug 17, 2013 12:11 am

Please post logs of great role-play examples here, though they range so far as combat to tea and all between. I think it will be encouraging to others; I have witnessed a few great ones over the past few days that suffered for a scant audience.

A great idea, Harry. Can we see some of your examples that you have seen the past few days? I'll post here later of some that I find.

I like this idea (and it reminds me I need to start logging again...). Any chance we could get a subsection of the forum for it or something?

Aww shoot! I had a pretty good alignment debate (shout out to Aramil) couched in race and faith. Would there be a way to send a global wide rpt echo (ie: you hear that Char A and Char B are debating/performing in X area)- use the command announce rp? It's hard as a new player to break into old player cliques.

I wish I'd logged this, but it was entirely unexpected. I believe I ran into Braithan in Howling Peaks on a drow of mine. He was injured when I came upon him, and he stayed and rp'd the entire thing beautifully. We rp'd for a good bit with a language barrier, and got into some intense combat. He thoroughly DESTROYED ME. I even got despreate and dropped a wand of enervation on him! and then me! and he stuck the entire thing out like a real pro. I dont mind getting into a confrontation and loosing, letting an item go (that was mutually agreed upon OOCly, a mark of his consideration of other players too!) and having my own enervation back fire on me, resulting in lost code based experience for both of us, because he did an INCREDIBLE JOB. I rewarded what little I could kismet wise after the fact, but he was a class A act. I'd be willing to loose some glory and get him some props of anykind!

Thanks you dastardly wood-elf you!

I had great fun! Feel like I botched some of my emotes because it was my first time flailing around with pvp, so I had to learn how the mechanics of it worked simultaneously, but it was a good scrap.

Im still getting a feel for how the rounds are supposed to go to. Was just trying to keep with the flow of rp'd combat more than anything. Load of fun regardless, I think you did a stand up job!

I log everything. EVERYTHING *cackles*

It's in the pastebin link above, since I didn't want to spam the board and we don't seem to have any working [spoiler] tags.

I'm impressed by the camaraderie. Pvp and pk situations have seemed very intense in the past, but here you seem very comfortable and having a good time. Personally I route for the drow, because its a rare treat to find them for a spar.

A big thank you to anyone who was involved, there was a lot of good roleplay and good sportsmanship. This event was long coming for Katheryn and I and it was a real pleasure to have enjoyed it with everyone. Also, sorry for how long it is, I hope readers enjoy!

(Lots of spam edited out, including combat spam. Also a few typos corrected)
-=Following some exchanged insults and a challenge to duel, unfortunately outside of my log=-

Diritas smiles thinly at Benorf and says, 'I would imagine your views of winning are different than my own. Duel l'outrance then, Benorf. Such will be my satisfaction...' he gestures North and says, 'I will await at the Fields.'.

Diritas nods briefly, glancing at Seraphine and Aramil before marching towards the North, smiling.

---

E-Before the Lion W-The Field of Tr
The level field here is carpeted with verdant grass cut down
to a uniform height. Its soft blades rustle and sway in even
the slightest breeze, their soft motion incongrous to great,
bloody spectacles often hosted atop them. The field has tall
walls surrounded its circuit and, behind them, seats rise up
in even rows.
The sky is hot and clear and a hot southerly gust blows.

Seraphine walks in from the east.

Seraphine climbs up into the seats without a word, sitting near the top.

Diritas looks over Seraphine as Seraphine approaches and lifts his chin slightly, turning his gaze back towards the East.

A leathery, white-haired female gnome walks in from the east.
A thin, frizzy haired female sun elf walks in from the east.
Benorf walks in from the east.
Katheryn walks in from the east.
Aramil walks in from the east.

Aramil inclines his head at Katheryn 'But after...this, we should speak some'.

Diritas's brow raises as he see Katheryn and he stiffens.

A thin, frizzy haired female sun elf glances up at Seraphine.

Katheryn nods faintly at Aramil, 'Aye, I agree.'.

A leathery, white-haired female gnome walks up into the stands and finds a place to sit next to A thin, frizzy haired female sun elf.

Katheryn looks at you.

Benorf asks 'Nane shall interfere wi' the combat. Agreed?'

Katheryn clasps her hands neatly in front of her as she sees you and inclines her head politely.

Diritas studies Katheryn quietly for a long moment before turning his hard gaze to Benorf, nodding once, 'Agreed.'.

A leathery, white-haired female gnome looks at you.

A thin, frizzy haired female sun elf tsks.

A thin, frizzy haired female sun elf smiles at Katheryn.

Aramil smiles faintly at Katheryn, remaining next to the female human, folding his hands on the rim of his shield.

Benorf traces a finger along his holy symbol, murmers a prayer and nods his head. 'Ah be prepared.'.

An ash-grey haired male human moves over to the seating area, observing the two in the field.

Katheryn looks at Seraphine.

Diritas slides free his blade of his scabbard, murmuring a darkly prayer as the point taste the dry air of the sands, 'You may have the first charge. We shall pass thrice, then fight to finish.'.

Seraphine's eyes swivel towards Katheryn, her face softening almost into a smile after a moment.

Benorf nods at you.

Benorf circles you slowly, rolling his axe over his wrist. He nods his head and lets out a yell, charging in.

Benorf yells 'Fur Duty!'

Benorf approaches you and prepares to engage you in combat!

Katheryn looks around a moment before spotting Seraphine. She gives Seraphine a warm smile and inclines her head politely, 'It is good to see you...' before turning her attention back to Benorf and you at the shout.

Seraphine nods once in agreement to Katheryn then sits up straighter to watch you and Benorf.

Diritas circles with Benorf, blows exchanging with a flurry of sparks and a cacaphony of steel. He disengages and counter-charges after a moment, signifying the second pass...

You approach Benorf and prepare to engage him in combat!

A thin, frizzy haired female sun elf frowns.

Benorf nods in satisfaction as he lands a few hits, seemingly unconcerned with the blows he took in return. He spins low and tries to get under your guard.

Benorf approaches you and prepares to engage you in combat!

Aramil shifts his weight a little, watching the exchange between Benorf and you with attention.

A leathery, white-haired female gnome shifts her weight in her seat.

A thin, frizzy haired female sun elf sits closer to A leathery, white-haired female gnome.

Katheryn's face is unreadable as she focuses on you and his movements, every so often her eyes travelling to Benorf to do the same.

Diritas smiles cruelly at Benorf as the sparks fly from his plate. He takes a half-step back and readies his blade to his side, after a moment he sneers at Benorf and gives a nod, charging with a call of, 'For the One True God!' ...

A thin, frizzy haired female sun elf icks!

With a sickening sound Benorf's slash violently shreds your right leg.
You dodge Benorf's attack.
You duck under Benorf's slashing attack.
You duck under Benorf's slashing attack.
With a sickening sound your slash violently shreds Benorf's abdomen.
Benorf has suffered mortal injury.
With a sickening sound your slash deftly shreds Benorf's chest.
Benorf is slowly bleeding to death.
With a sickening sound your slash violently shreds Benorf's abdomen.
Benorf is close to death.
Benorf ducks under your slashing attack.
Benorf ducks under your slashing attack.

Benorf drops a silvery elaborate steel battle axe.
Benorf drops a platinum-inlaid oak heavy shield.

Benorf surrenders!

Benorf smiles and says, 'Dae et then, Lord Marshall.'.

Benorf says 'Kill an unarmed lad.'

Benorf says 'Ah proved ma faith, an' did ma duty.'

Benorf laughs.

Aramil lifts one slender golden brow, and furrows his brows slightly.

A thin, frizzy haired female sun elf looks at Benorf.

Your pulse returns to normal.

A thin, frizzy haired female sun elf looks at you.

Katheryn seems a bit confused at this and glances to Aramil.

Benorf kneels down.

Benorf utters a quiet prayer and smiles serenely up at you, blood oozing from a dozen wounds.

A thin, frizzy haired female sun elf frowns.

Diritas's lips draw slightly as he studies Benorf. After a moment he lifts his chin and says, 'I'll give you your death then, Benorf. I've honour enough not to take yours from you.' before pausing, his eyes shifting to Katheryn for a moment before he scowls, face hardening and blade coming down...

A leathery, white-haired female gnome turns to look at A thin, frizzy haired female sun elf then back to the two in the field.

You have rewarded Benorf!

You approach Benorf and prepare to engage him in combat!
You attack Benorf as he gets within your weapon's reach.
You score a critical hit!
Your slash minces Benorf's left leg.

Benorf is DEAD!
You sense that your patron approves of your actions.
You hear Benorf's death cry.

A thin, frizzy haired female sun elf gasps.

Seraphine lets out held breath, her eyes fixed on you.

Diritas's face is a contorted mask as he draws a silk cloth bearing an 'M' from his belt to clean his weapon.

You stop using a sleek warsword clad in elegant cold iron script.
You sheath a sleek warsword clad in elegant cold iron script in a black leather leg sheath.

Your pulse returns to normal.

A thin, frizzy haired female sun elf shakes her head, a frown on her face.

Katheryn lowers her head and clasps at her holy symbol about her neck, saying a very silent prayer. She looks up with watery eyes to Aramil and says quietly, 'We should see him to one who can return him his life. No doubt he is required back.'.

Diritas murmurs a silent prayer and turns his hard gaze over the group, 'Someone see to him. The dwarf has shown himself to be a fool, but an honourable one.'.

A leathery, white-haired female gnome sighs as her face become expressionless. She stands walks down to the field.

A thin, frizzy haired female sun elf rises from her rest.

It's noon.

A leathery, white-haired female gnome rises from her rest.

Diritas lays the corpses armements over its chest and places his kerchief away saying, 'Will any beg recourse for him?' before lifting his chin to look over the crowd once more.

A leathery, white-haired female gnome moves to the corpse looking over it.

A leathery, white-haired female gnome says to Katheryn 'With your permission'

Diritas's hard gaze seems to pass over all but Katheryn.

Aramil gazes at Katheryn's face a moment and dips his head, murmuring something very softly to the female ere turning his attention back to the proceedings on the fields.

Katheryn blinks at A leathery, white-haired female gnome in surprise before nodding, 'Aye, by all means, goodwoman. His Lord will see Him to if that is His wish.'.

A thin, frizzy haired female sun elf asks A leathery, white-haired female gnome 'Do you need help?'

A thin, frizzy haired female sun elf descends the stairs and walks to A leathery, white-haired female gnome, frowning at the body of her friend.

Katheryn asks A leathery, white-haired female gnome 'Can I be of aid?'

A leathery, white-haired female gnome cracks her fingers before saying a praying over herself.

A leathery, white-haired female gnome begins to chant.
You guess A leathery, white-haired female gnome is casting bulls strength.
A leathery, white-haired female gnome utters the words, 'bulls strength'.
A leathery, white-haired female gnome's muscles ripple as power flows through her...

A leathery, white-haired female gnome reaches down and picks of the corpse throwing it over both her shoulders.

A leathery, white-haired female gnome gets the corpse of a shield dwarf.

Katheryn takes in a deep breath before she walks out to meet you on the field. She exhales her breath slowly, saying to you, 'I would.'.

You blink.

An ash-grey haired male human watches from the stands, eyebrows raising as the gnome hefts the body.

An ash-grey haired male human blinks at Katheryn in disbelief.

A thin, frizzy haired female sun elf frowns.

Diritas's hands clench, his shoulders fall and his face blanches, his eyes alone raise to the sky for a moment as though begging for some relief from his position before he turns his face towards Katheryn. His expression seems soft as he looks over Katheryn, 'Kit...'.

Aramil leans forward as Katheryn steps onto the field, a brief expression of interest appearing on his sharp features ere disappearing again.

Katheryn reaches for her shield and fixes it to her left arm. The only emotion on her face is a stream of tears, her face remaining as marble. She says to you, 'You slew a good man today, a man of The Loyal Fury, a man who may have died honorably, but unnecessarily needed to. I would have stood before him while he was unarmed, but he asked none interfere.'.

Katheryn gets a platinum-inlaid scarlet oak heavy shield from a travellers pack.

Katheryn holds a platinum-inlaid scarlet oak heavy shield in her left hand.

A thin, frizzy haired female sun elf looks at Katheryn.

The Town Crier shouts 'Hear ye! Hear ye!'
The Town Crier shouts 'Filiare at the Inn of the Dripping Dagger on Selduth Street declares adventurers most welcome!'
The Town Crier shouts 'Now come you, meet your ilk, and yon drink together upon your good fortunes!'

Seraphine half rises out of her seat, her eyes darting between you and Katheryn.

Diritas stares silently at Katheryn, his face twisted from fearful shock to a mixture of anger and sadness, 'Katheryn, return to your knight. I'll have no part of fighting you...'.

Katheryn returns your gaze and shakes her head once, 'I would return to my knight if he suggests, but not because you asked. You asked a question and it was met with an answer. How different is it, harming me with your blade, than it is slaying the goodman you did today?' She lifts a hand, saying, 'Blood binds us, brother, but that equally binds us all.'.
Katheryn greets you.

A muscle-bound male half orc walks in from the east.
A muscle-bound male half orc Hmmmms...
A muscle-bound male half orc looks at you.

You hear the marching of the city watch patrolling the streets.

A leathery, white-haired female gnome goes to turn and walk with the corpse over he shoulders then pauses and turns around.

A muscle-bound male half orc blinks looking at the corpse.

Diritas's lips move as he struggles to find his voice, after a moment it comes with a waver, 'Katheryn... please don't... just go back, this needn't happen...'.

Diritas's gaze shifts to Aramil, his expression seemingly pleading, 'Call her back Fairling...'.

Captain Jashun Windrunner yells, 'In 30 minutes, the Wave Reaver will leave for Corwell.'

The Wave Reaver leaves the docks.

An ash-grey haired male human looks at Aramil.

Aramil watches the exchange between you and Katheryn for another while then tilts his head and clucks his tongue softly, stepping onto the fields and marches over to Katheryn and you at a measured pace 'The man called Benorf needs to be aided, a task of priority for the moment.'.

A thin, frizzy haired female sun elf nods at Aramil.

an amulet of communication glows briefly as A thin, frizzy haired female sun elf activates it.

A thin, frizzy haired female sun elf nods at A leathery, white-haired female gnome.

A leathery, white-haired female gnome shifts the corpse on her shoulders and walks out saying 'I'll be in the Temple of Gond'.

A leathery, white-haired female gnome walks east.

A thin, frizzy haired female sun elf walks east.

Katheryn takes her eyes from you to Aramil, then looks towards the departing gnome, then back to Aramil, 'Master Benorf is in good hands now, Sir. The good priestess will see him through, as will Miss Mynaheir.' She inclines her head ever so faintly towards Aramil, 'I will stand back if I am stepping out of line at this time, but for no other reason.'.

You are hungry.

Diritas watches after the corpse and takes a slow breath, straightening as he exhales to look over Katheryn's determined face with an expression of sorrow, 'Katheryn... back down... you don't want this...'.

A caravan enters the city.

Diritas's face contorts and he pulls his gaze away to hide the misery creeping onto it.

An ash-grey haired male human watches the field, curiously.

Katheryn takes in a deep breath before saying to you, her tone calm and her words measured carefully, 'You are right. I do not want this. I am doing this because, there will be a time, later in our lives...do you see? This is bound to happpen. If it does not happen here, it will happen another time. I will give you a choice...'.

Katheryn says to you 'I can stand aside here, and we will meet again another time, or I stand my ground here, and we will meet again another time. There is no avoiding it.'

A muscle-bound male half orc looks between Katheryn and you quietly.

Diritas's voice comes muffled, his face held away as he speaks, voice almost a whisper, 'You're right Kit... today was always coming...'.

Diritas's head lifts and he turns his gaze towards Katheryn, his face a hardened mask of... something as he whispers, 'It needn't come so soon, dear Katheryn... but it has come.'.

Katheryn's face finally cracks as a faint frown settles on her lips. She nods very faintly at you in agreement, 'Another time, another place, and things may have turned different. But we are where we stand now.'.

Menela the wagon driver yells, 'In 30 minutes, a caravan will depart towards Berdusk, Shadowdale, and Zhentil Keep.'

Katheryn looks to Aramil and asks, 'I ask you give me this, Sir. I do not believe I am wrong in my judgement.'.

Seraphine raises to her feet suddenly with a shake of her head. After a moment of staring at you and Katheryn she sits down again just as abruptly.

The sun slowly starts to set in the west.
A caravan departs.

An ash-grey haired male human looks at Seraphine.

Diritas's posture straightens and he regains much of his imperative stance as he says, 'So be it...'.

Diritas's expression descends to a mask of cruel, hateful determination as his blade comes slowly from his sheathe, 'Katheryn Marshall, you stand before the will of The Lord. The Lord who's Supreme Throne I live and die to serve... there is no other option.'.

You get a sleek warsword clad in elegant cold iron script from a black leather leg sheath.
A sleek warsword clad in elegant cold iron script feels like a part of you.
You hold a sleek warsword clad in elegant cold iron script in both of your hands.

Diritas's lips draw into a cruel, almost maddened smile as he cants his head to look over Katheryn, seemingly quite oblivious to the single tear falling down his cheek, 'Your death will be for Him... and maybe in the afterlife, He will allow you to be saved...'.

Seraphine's shoulders slump at your words, her hands coming up to cover her face.

The night has begun.

A muscle-bound male half orc frowns serverly as he watches the event unfold.

Aramil returns Katheryn's gaze calmly 'I disapprove of this, squire' he murmures, then takes a soft breath and shakes his head briefly, turning to step in front of Katheryn 'Stop this madness, Lord Marshall. The squire will fight none here today.'.

Diritas's blade raises to a readied position and he takes up his stance, eyes flashing to Aramil, 'I will be His Hand of Murder... the decision is made, Fairling. This will happen now...'.

Katheryn's face falls, the sadness clearly marked. She hesitates a moment, then blinks in surprise at Aramil when he speaks. She frowns even deeper at Aramil, shaking her head faintly, 'You need not do this, Sir, and I ask you do not.'.

Diritas's lips draw into a sneer and he says, 'Insist, Fairling... and the deaths on my hand shall number three this day.' before turning his attention back to Katheryn.

Nerian walks in from the east.

A muscle-bound male half orc looks at Nerian.

An ash-grey haired male human glances at Nerian.

Nerian approaches the edge of the arena, leaning against its bracing bars to observe the field, folding both hands over his broad swordbelt.

A leathery, white-haired female gnome walks in from the east.

Seraphine catches sight of Nerian from through her fingers and stiffens in her seat.

The sky is getting cloudy.

You are STARVING!

Nerian's index finger taps idly against the sunburst vervelle linking his slung belt together, and his gaze wanders across the arena's seats (if momentarily)

Diritas stands, blade readied before Aramil and Katheryn, his expression one of cold, cruel hatred.

Nerian looks at An ash-grey haired male human.

Aramil casts Katheryn a brief glance 'Did you consider the consquences of your actions earlier, squire?' he inquires 'You are my charge with everything that entails.' he turns back to you 'I cannot and will not let you turn your murderous intents on a squire.'.

Captain Jocelyn Crane yells, 'In 30 minutes, the Wave Runner will leave Waterdeep for Corwell.'

Diritas's lips draw as a wretched smile plays across them, 'Then ready your weapon, Fairling... t'wil be you and I first.'.

Nerian lifts his chin gently and cants his gaze over the field, lifting his visor to reveal his face and settle his eyes across Aramil.

Katheryn has been rewarded by Seraphine!

You have been rewarded by Seraphine!

Aramil holds a tower shield of rock-hard metal in his left hand.

Aramil gets a steel bastard sword engraved with a scorpion from a leather-wrapped scabbard.
Aramil wields a steel bastard sword engraved with a scorpion in his right hand.

Katheryn turns her head aside faintly in shame before bowing her head to Aramil, saying very quietly to where only he and you might hear, 'I apologize for my short sight, though it will do you no good now.' before stepping away from you and Aramil.

Aramil utters a soft prayer and regards Katheryn 'Very well, squire, it will not. But I approve that you are learning that actions can have unconvenient to negative consequences.'.

Aramil begins to chant.
You guess Aramil is casting righteous fury.
Aramil utters the words, 'righteous fury'.
Aramil roars as he is inspired by righteous fury.

A muscle-bound male half orc blinks.

Diritas's weapon sways to level its point to Aramil's eyes as he says, 'Shall we make this quick then, Fairling?'.

Aramil nods curtly at you.

Benorf walks in from the east.

Benorf smirks at you.
Benorf looks at Nerian.

Diritas sneers as he nods, his feet digging up dirt as he explodes into a charge with preternatural speed at Aramil.

Nerian's eyes wander from the field only long enough to look Benorf over with a cruel, appraisive gaze.

You approach Aramil and prepare to engage him in combat!
Your slash lacerates Aramil's left leg.
Aramil is slightly scratched.
Aramil ducks under your slashing attack.
Aramil ducks under your slashing attack.
Your slash tears open Aramil's right arm.

You disarm Aramil!
A muscle-bound male half orc blinks.
You score a critical hit!
Your slash tears a gaping wound into Aramil's right leg.
With a sickening sound your slash violently shreds Aramil's head.
Aramil is mortally wounded, and will die soon, if not aided.

You score a critical hit!

Aramil is DEAD!
You sense that your patron approves of your actions.
You hear Aramil's death cry.

Benorf blinks.

A muscle-bound male half orc stares at the sky.

A thin, frizzy haired female sun elf shrieks.
A thin, frizzy haired female sun elf says 'MONSTER.'

A muscle-bound male half orc stares in shock.

Diritas takes a slow breath and turns his gaze to Katheryn, 'You are prepared?'.

Nerian's right palm comes to rest lazily over the pommel of the sword slung to his hip, and his gaze wanders from you to scan the growing crowd.

Diritas seems to ignore A thin, frizzy haired female sun elf as he murmurs a darkly prayer.

A thin, frizzy haired female sun elf glares at you.

Nerian clicks his tongue against the back of his teeth, shaking his head slowly in regard to A thin, frizzy haired female sun elf.

an amulet of communication glows briefly as A thin, frizzy haired female sun elf activates it.

Diritas looks to A thin, frizzy haired female sun elf, 'I'll not be shy to add the death of a heathen wench to my blade today. Keep back and perhaps you'll have your turn.'.

A swarthy, beryl-eyed male human is in perfect health.

A leathery, white-haired female gnome sighs and shakes her head.

Katheryn chokes a bit as the sun elf falls before looking to you with tears in her eyes, asking, 'Can arrangements for him to be taken be made prior to our engagement?'.

Diritas draws a piece of meat from his bag to devour as he notices Nerian, his brows raising and his posture straightening before he bows his head respectfully, then turns his darkly gaze back to Katheryn.

You take a slab of wyvern meat from a dark green scalemail bag.
You eat a slab of wyvern meat.

A small, vivacious female aasimar narrows her eyes, placing her hand on A thin, frizzy haired female sun elf's arm, nearly gripping it.

A muscle-bound male half orc hand rests nervously on his weapons pomel.

The spilled blood slowly seeps into the ground.

Diritas's lips draw slightly and he looks about the group, 'I'm sure many here could handle it... but if they're drawing up the cart for corpses... they may as well make but one trip.'.

Nerian looks at A muscle-bound male half orc.

Benorf looks at A muscle-bound male half orc.

A thin, frizzy haired female sun elf looks to A small, vivacious female aasimar and frowns.

A small, vivacious female aasimar whispers quietly to A thin, frizzy haired female sun elf.

A thin, frizzy haired female sun elf says to A small, vivacious female aasimar 'We should take Aramil and help him.'

Nerian's eyes pass over the crowd ere returning to steel between Katheryn and you.

Diritas's evil gaze turns back to Katheryn, devoid of all love or softness it may once have had for Katheryn, 'Ready your weapon, Katheryn.'.

Benorf growls.

A thin, frizzy haired female sun elf nods at A small, vivacious female aasimar.

Katheryn draws her blade slowly and adjusts her shield before her face hardens once more as she stares back at you, saying nothing.

Seraphine hugs herself with both arms, blinking repeatedly between you and Katheryn.

Katheryn gets a cavalry sabre with a delicate star ruby pommel from a leather-wrapped scabbard.

A thin, frizzy haired female sun elf's muscles ripple as power flows through her...

Benorf looks at A thin, frizzy haired female sun elf.
Benorf nods.

A thin, frizzy haired female sun elf hefts the body and leaves quietly.

A muscle-bound male half orc steps forward and states 'Hasnea enough blood been spilt?'.

A thin, frizzy haired female sun elf walks east.

Benorf says to Katheryn 'Torm guide yer blade, love.'

Benorf nods at Katheryn.

Nerian looks at Benorf.

Diritas nods once at at Katheryn, 'Take your charge then, Katheryn. Moral courage... so much more the difficult than physical courage.'.

An ash-grey haired male human shakes his head.

an amulet of communication glows briefly as A small, vivacious female aasimar activates it.

Diritas's lips draw into a cruel sneer as he readies his blade, fine Elven blood dripping from it's tip to the sands...

Katheryn takes in a sharp breath, almost as if put off guard by your words, if only for a moment. She scowls, tears still in her eyes as she advances on you.

Katheryn approaches you and prepares to engage you in combat!
Your slash nearly bisects Katheryn's head.
Katheryn has a few small cuts.

Your pulse returns to normal.

Diritas responds to Katheryn's charge with a flurry of blows, Katheryn's blade striking against his chestplate before he shoves Katheryn back with his cross-guard, 'The Fairling has taught you to fight better than that! Charge! Give your all!'.

You sneer in contempt.

An ash-grey haired male human looks kind of out of it.

A small, vivacious female aasimar leans down to whisper something to Benorf, her gaze still watching what goes on.

A muscle-bound male half orc figits.

Nerian's hands settle over the buckle of his swordbelt and he shifts his weight, leaning idly against the stands.

Benorf nods absently to A small, vivacious female aasimar, sadness in his eyes as he watches the fight.

An ash-grey haired male human looks kind of out of it.

A muscle-bound male half orc glances at An ash-grey haired male human.

Katheryn winces as your blade connects, and seems surprised by it. Catching herself, she continues with her scowling at you, saying nothing. She readies her shield once more before taking another charge at you.

Katheryn approaches you and prepares to engage you in combat!
Your slash minces Katheryn's left arm.

Your pulse returns to normal.

The waxing moon sets.
It starts to rain.

Diritas steps under Katheryn's attack, blade coming up cruelly under Katheryn's guard repeatedly before he plants a boot on Katheryn and kicks Katheryn away, making distance once more and breaking combat, 'Your all, Katheryn... This will be the end. Come at me with your all... and see the might of Cyric truly.'.

Diritas readies his blade once more, raising it in something of a salute as he lowers to his stance once more, blade leveled towards Katheryn's gaze...

An ash-grey haired male human looks kind of out of it.
An ash-grey haired male human rises from his rest.
An ash-grey haired male human runs east.

Katheryn takes in a deep breath and takes a few steps back from you. She holds a hand to her chest and murmurs quietly to herself, likely a prayer of some sort before she sniffs back more tears. She stares at you for a long moment with sadness in her eyes before shaking her head faintly and advancing on you once more, favoring already her right left.

Althasizor walks in from the east.
A honey-haired, slender female human walks in from the east.

Diritas murmurs, his expression softened in the midst of battle for hardly a second, 'Farewell dear sister...' before swinging his final blows, his hateful mask regained...
Katheryn's slash tears open your right leg.
You score a critical hit!
Your slash nearly bisects Katheryn's right arm.
Your slash tears open Katheryn's chest.

Katheryn is DEAD!
You sense that your patron approves of your actions.
You hear Katheryn's death cry.

A leathery, white-haired female gnome gasps.

An ash-grey haired male human runs in from the east.

A muscle-bound male half orc says '......'

A honey-haired, slender female human frowns.

Benorf winces.

Seraphine clamps both hands over her mouth to stifle a cry.

Althasizor touches the front of his flat mask lightly, 'What...'.

Diritas murmurs a silent prayer, his face an expression of seething malice as he turns his gaze over those gathered. After a long moment he bows respectfully to Nerian and wipes clean his blade.

Nerian's cruel glare across the field turns easy and a thin smile purses his lips. He turns half in a step and considers Althasizor and A honey-haired, slender female human, smile fading as quickly as it appeared.

Diritas nods at Nerian, 'They may assault, Banelord.'.

An ash-grey haired male human frowns eyeing the body in the field. 'So, he actually did it. Killed his own sister.'.

Althasizor looks at Nerian for a moment before turning his gaze on you, 'Leave. Now.'.

A honey-haired, slender female human frowns deeply 'Not my intention unless pressed to do so.'.

Nerian considers you lazily, leaning against the stands and lifting both shoulders in a heavy shrug. He reaches into a gauntlet and considers Althasizor, '..He acted in defense of challenge, wizard.'.

Nerian looks at Althasizor.

Benorf sighs sadly as he gazes at the corpse. He growls and says, 'Ah did no' think et possible...'.

Diritas's lips raise into a cruel smile, 'Collect her, Boy... see her to her Fairling Knight lest you join her and be rendered unable.'.

A muscle-bound male half orc murmers 'I am not surprised'.

Althasizor nods slowly to Nerian, 'Yes. He murdered three people against the laws of the city, clearly in the right.'.

Diritas laughs harshly, 'Fairly fought duels all. Acceptable on these grounds.'.

Althasizor shakes his head slowly at you, 'Perhaps your master may speak that way, but you...'.

A honey-haired, slender female human moves to the body 'Someone please get her and take her away?'.

A muscle-bound male half orc gets the corpse of a human.

Nerian's scar-cleaved brow arches thinly and he rests his right palm idly over the sword slung from his scabbard. His lips purse together in a faint smirk and he shifts his weight from his left foot and back again.

Diritas's lips draw into a sneer and he barks, 'Collect her and go. I'll not say again. Murmur a word of magick and you'll join her.'.

The spilled blood slowly seeps into the ground.

A muscle-bound male half orc lift up the corpse onto his shoulder.

Benorf moves to stand next to A honey-haired, slender female human.

Althasizor sighs lightly behind his mask, 'We do not seek more violence. As the High Mage says, that is not our intent.'.

A muscle-bound male half orc asks A leathery, white-haired female gnome 'Where is that?'

A leathery, white-haired female gnome says to A muscle-bound male half orc 'North of here off of shark street'

Nerian chuckles gruffly, watching Althasizor, '..Then tarry no longer, wizard - take the crumpled heap and be away, these grounds belong to the School of Combat.'.

A honey-haired, slender female human says to A leathery, white-haired female gnome 'We need to work on your directional skills.'

Althasizor glances at A honey-haired, slender female human.

A leathery, white-haired female gnome points south 'North right?'.

A honey-haired, slender female human shrugs in response to A leathery, white-haired female gnome.

Benorf straightens and says to Nerian, 'An' Ah, as a Veteran o' this very school, wish both o' thaem here as ma guest.'.

Nerian rolls his shoulders in a heavy shrug, his wolfen pauldrons straining with metal against maille as he does so. He looks Benorf over, 'And as a fellow of the very same, I reserve my right to assemble here as well, with Lord Marshall as my steward.'.

Seraphine stands abruptly and walks down to the field. She pauses briefly in front of you with a long look, her face very still, before setting off after the half orc.
Seraphine walks east.

A small, vivacious female aasimar accepts Althasizor's invitation and joins his group.

Benorf accepts Althasizor's invitation and joins his group.

Nerian's leftern gauntlet waves vaguely dismissively in response to A honey-haired, slender female human, turning his calculating gaze over A honey-haired, slender female human, '..See to your fallen, spellweaver, less you care to add to their ranks.'.

Althasizor makes a small motion for the others, 'The recently deceased are waiting..'.

A honey-haired, slender female human's hands pulsate and shimmer with soft light.

Althasizor looks at A leathery, white-haired female gnome.

A honey-haired, slender female human pokes A leathery, white-haired female gnome in the ribs.

A honey-haired, slender female human says to A leathery, white-haired female gnome 'We need you.'

A leathery, white-haired female gnome accepts Althasizor's invitation and joins his group.

Nerian smiles thinly, watching A honey-haired, slender female human behind a cruel sneer, '..The day will come when you can discern the truth - Is this it?'.

Benorf gets a silvery elaborate steel battle axe from a leather weapons loop.

Benorf wields a silvery elaborate steel battle axe in his right hand.

A leathery, white-haired female gnome says to A honey-haired, slender female human 'Nice to be needed'

The day has begun.

A honey-haired, slender female human says to Nerian 'I am afraid the truth will be a bit different than what you believe it to be.'

A honey-haired, slender female human says to Althasizor 'Lets see to the fallen.'

A leathery, white-haired female gnome winks at you.
You say, OOC, '*wink*'

Althasizor nods curtly in response to A honey-haired, slender female human, gaze lingering on Nerian for a moment too long before he begins moving off of the fields.

Althasizor walks east, followed by a large group.

Nerian reaches his free hand into the purse at his side and lets his gaze linger toward the stairway.

Diritas smirks and shakes his head slowly as he looks to Nerian, 'I'd a mind to charge...'.

Nerian returns a cruel smirk of his own, watching you, '..And I'd a mind to remove both their heads for His glory, but numbers favoured the Waterdhavians today.'.

Diritas laughs harshly and says, 'Aye, they've a city and we are but two amongst them.'.

Nerian chuckles gruffly, withdrawing both hands to pluck them into the pockets of his mailled coat.

Nerian looks at you.

Radijji the wagon driver yells, 'In 30 minutes, a caravan will depart towards Silkhole, Applehill, and Westgate.'

Diritas's smiles cruelly at Nerian, 'Three this day, before the light of the filthiest of heathens. They know Strife... ever more so, they know Murder.'.

You stop using a sleek warsword clad in elegant cold iron script.
You sheath a sleek warsword clad in elegant cold iron script in a black leather leg sheath.
You put a silk handkerchief embroidered with 'M' in a dark green scalemail bag.

Nerian considers you as his eased gaze hardens, '..And blood spilled of your own veins in the girl - It would arrive sooner than later..' He nods slowly, contemplatingly, and shifts the weight on his feet.

Diritas's lips draw into a sneer, 'She's blind to the Truth. It was but a matter of time, and she stood before the judgement of The Lord...' he shakes his head slowly and says, 'Death to All who oppose Cyric.'.

The sun rises in the east.

A caravan departs.

Nerian presses a fist against his chest and withdraws the other from his pocket, settling both over his swordbelt, '..I am too long within these walls.' He shakes his head and drops his chin to you, curtly, '..You do Him great honours in each day you serve him - Your presence should be known in the realms, make it so known.' He moves to turn on his heel and adds to you, 'When you return to the Spires, find me and we will discuss what will come.'.

Nerian walks east.
Nerian stops following you.

I am so glad to have been a part of this roleplay, and equally say that I didn't think to save our conversation leading up to the fight. One of the best RPs I have been a part of, though.

Re: Great Role-Play

Postby Raona » Tue Jan 07, 2014 10:57 am

This is from long ago (2006), and only the start of a long RP...but I'm moved to post it because the whole string (5+ RP sessions) involved no combat at all, in contrast with the two examples above. I was hoping to make a book of it someday, but it got too long. So then I was going to make a play of it (when the puppets came in, that was my ambition in asking for them) but have not had time. It's a comedy, no doubt, but I'd put this up against Acquisitions Inc. any day. The player of the tiefling is still with us and active, one of my paragons of RP. I'll let them out themselves if they want to. (I didn't appreciate this at the time, but they clearly got Immly help setting up the scene, but they made the most of it!) Alas, Jaenoic's player no longer plays with us.

Of Deals with Devils: A Tale of a Tiefling's "Redemption"

Forward: My name is Raona Corbin. At the time of this writing, I serve as a private in the Waterdeep City Watch, and have been recently inducted into the church of Justice (Tyr). I am deeply moved by the tenets of the Churches of Suffering (Ilmater), Knowledge (Oghma), and the Dawn (Lathander). Let it be freely known that I am a woman of soft heart, despite having grown up in harsh environs. I have befriended individual goblins, orcs, and other dark race individuals, having given each individual a chance to earn my trust and aid, where many others have not. I firmly believe that whilst the challenges of their upbringing and intrinsic nature may make it more difficult for members of the dark races to follow a goodly path, taking it at face value that they will fail to do so becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Even of our enemies, we should seek understanding and insight, an appreciation of their outlook on the world, if only to better guard against their evil intent. It is with these beliefs in mind that I write this tome, as good a history as I can manage of a true tale: one that did open my eyes to the true nature of a fellow soul, though I still shudder at what I there saw. It is intended as both warning and parable, but in the hope of aiding those who, as myself, seek to trust those to whom few others will extend such opportunity. I am shaken, but will not falter in my hope that there may yet be a tiefling soul out there, somewhere, seeking redemption. As a bony red tiefling once explained to me, most tieflings have very diluted fiendish blood. Intervening generations can carry a fiendish taint without manifesting it. So before ye cast down stones upon those in whom the taint is obvious, think carefully on this: ye may carry it as well.

Dedication: This tome be dedicated to those of dark soul who nonetheless hold my respect, for they do not hide their true nature. I do not find any camaraderie with them, and my code prevents me ever working alongside them, even if our goals should coincide: but I respect their honesty with themselves, and others, about what they truly are. A creature can be evil, and still despise deception, as I do. That much I can respect in any creature.

Chapter 1: Oily Insurance
I was on patrol about the city of splendors with one of my commanding officers, Corporal Jaenoic of Ilmater, when we were called to a farmstead north of the City in response to news of a...public spectacle. She asked me "Care to come and investigate something with me? It may be...gruesome..." As I nodded nervously in the affirmative, she explained "A tiefling mentioned something about corpses by the North Gate. I fear his story be confirmed."

The fields around here are cultivated and long rows filled
with various crops stretch towards the horizon. Here and there
a field lies fallow while it regains lost nutrients.
Four crude pikes have been set up here, each of them with a
half-rotten corpse hanging on it. The whole scene is very gory.
Some parts of the corpses look like they have been burnt
by acid, as if they had been plunged in a large vat of acid.

An oily-haired, stylish male tiefling is leaning on a corpse-laden pike.
An oily-haired, stylish male tiefling waves to Jaenoic and you.

Jaenoic frowns deeply.
An oily-haired, stylish male tiefling says 'Smells like team spirit'
Jaenoic says 'Oh, Ilmater have mercy...'
Raona remains expressionless, but her eyes narrow.
An oily-haired, stylish male tiefling asks 'Does this happen often near the city?'
Jaenoic nearly snaps, but calms herself 'Of course nae.'.
Jaenoic murmurs, 'First time I have e'er seen this...'.

An oily-haired, stylish male tiefling asks 'Well then, I suppose it is a fad?'
You glower at An oily-haired, stylish male tiefling in frustration.
Jaenoic says to An oily-haired, stylish male tiefling 'Probably something done by that horrific demon that attacked the city.'
An oily-haired, stylish male tiefling gently carresses the jaw of one of the corpses.
An oily-haired, stylish male tiefling asks Jaenoic 'I heard about that, shame on them! What kind of demon attacks a city? We need to start with oceans'
Jaenoic says to An oily-haired, stylish male tiefling 'One that be looking to stir up trouble.'
An oily-haired, stylish male tiefling says to Jaenoic 'Then they are foolish, stirring is for pansies, I like to lick the spoon only.'
An oily-haired, stylish male tiefling smirks at Jaenoic.
Jaenoic gives An oily-haired, stylish male tiefling an odd look and just shakes her head.
An oily-haired, stylish male tiefling says 'So, you know these gentleman..and one of them is a woman I suspect'
An oily-haired, stylish male tiefling says 'She smells like a woman'
An oily-haired, stylish male tiefling says 'Kisses like a man though'
Jaenoic frowns at what An oily-haired, stylish male tiefling did.
An oily-haired, stylish male tiefling blows a kiss to a corpse.
Jaenoic says to An oily-haired, stylish male tiefling 'Stop that.'
An oily-haired, stylish male tiefling nods at Jaenoic.
Raona stands dumbfounded.
An oily-haired, stylish male tiefling says to Jaenoic 'Acid and decay, whomeever did this was a salty dog.'
An oily-haired, stylish male tiefling says to Jaenoic 'Demons don't do this, because we are more the get the job done sort.'
An oily-haired, stylish male tiefling asks 'you know?'
An oily-haired, stylish male tiefling says 'This is theatrical.'
Jaenoic shakes her head.
An oily-haired, stylish male tiefling says 'Intestines, gore, corpese, pikes'

An oily-haired, stylish male tiefling says to Jaenoic 'And hell warmed over.'
An oily-haired, stylish male tiefling asks Jaenoic 'Whose your friend?'
An oily-haired, stylish male tiefling looks at you.
You ask An oily-haired, stylish male tiefling '"Ye be something of a...dark poet. But surely ye can find a more...engaging...audience than ourselves?'
An oily-haired, stylish male tiefling sneezes and wipes his nose on one of the corpses tattered rags.
Jaenoic exclaims to An oily-haired, stylish male tiefling 'Stop that!'
An oily-haired, stylish male tiefling asks Jaenoic 'What?'
An oily-haired, stylish male tiefling raises an eyebrow.
Jaenoic says to An oily-haired, stylish male tiefling 'I'll nae have ye disrespecting the dead like that.'
An oily-haired, stylish male tiefling says to Jaenoic 'They look pretty disrespected already.'
