Help Files, Bash, Brawling

Post by Tarven » Tue Jul 17, 2012 11:07 pm

Was just noticing that neither of these help files mention anything about attacks of opportunity, or links to the 'Improved' feats, where Disarm does.

Also, an "Attack of Opportunity" help file, listing what causes them, in general, might be handy.

A fine suggestion! I added the requisite content to bash and a link to the advanced feats, but don't have time to add explanatory text to brawling yet. Added a (pretty bad) new helpfile for AOO. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll try to keep working on it unless someone beats me to it!

OK, I finished most of this up. Are there other things that provoke attacks of opportunity that I should link the new helpfile to, though?

Also, am I wrong about kicks, punches, and spells invoking attacks of opportunity? Might be I just read a suggestion on that and I'm thinking wishfully here.

Spells do not, nor do kicks. I haven't tried punches.

Having a kick or punch present an attack of opportunity would be detrimental.

A kick or punch does maybe 1% a person's health where weapon damage can do a lot more. Casting a spell can do a lot more damage than a weapon strike or punch/kick, too. If punch/kick gave an attack of opportunity, it would be worthless.

To be fair, though, the only reason I think no one's sought their removal from the game even though they aren't really based on D&D, is because combat with melee classes would be pretty damned boring without extra crap to do besides disarm.

To be perfectly honest, I have only used either one of these a handful of times in all my years of being here. They are pretty much useless until the very very end of a fight, and then its kind of just a little game to see if you can end the fight with a kick. I would much rather see them taken away and something more useful put in their place, or maybe beefed up a little.

Something like the Treat Injury skill could be hugely beneficial for fighters. Just have it to where they can use up bandages in their inventory and gain hit points a little faster while resting. I for one would love the RP of having to tie up a mangled arm or stop a bad cut from bleeding. But these days, with the availability of healing potions and a priest of every corner, not really sure that would even be worth it lol.

While I agree Treat Injury would be keen, and that punch/kick are 99.9% useless (and definitely a waste of stamina), I think Fighters are pretty strong as it is. Give love to druids and rogues. <.<

Helpfile redacted to reflect current reality. Subsequent comments would fall in the suggestions category, so if you really want to push for them, please relocate them there. I'm calling this bug addressed, unless someone has something else to call to my attention. Thanks for reporting the omission, Tarven.
