RE: Wall of Fog
Blah, you're asking the non-mage-playing person to explain all this??
Okay, here goes:
Wall of Fog
(Evocation)
Range: 30 yards
Duration: 2d4 rounds +1 round/level
Area of Effect: 20 ft. cube + 10 ft. cube/level
By casting this spell, the wizard creates a billowing wall of misty vapors in any area within the spell range. The wall of fog obscures all sight, normal and infravision, beyond 2 feet.
Abbreviated from 2nd Ed. PHB p. 180
On the MUD I think this would have the effect of a Blindness spell except over a larger area. Maybe with a random chance for the PC to see other PCs/mobs in the same room but no chance of seeing outside the room. PC's would be at a disadvantage to fight in that thick fog. It would also allow PCs to move in and out of the affected rooms without the room echoes so-and-so walks west etc. - effectively allowing the fog to cover someone's retreat.
