Lately I find when I do quests, no matter the size of the quest I end up with a lot of wands. Now wands haven't always been a very big thing in game, and I realize that it has been changed and they are supposed to be generally more 'useful'. The best way I can put the use of wands is as pretty firewood. More often than not, I just discharge a wand, and use it to light things on fire. They don't help me as often as something else would from the RMI table. I find doing quests, and ending up wanded(Yes, that has become a term now.) to be a little redundant. It continually happens over, and over again. I feel a better reward could be set in place.
Take for example, we charge into a cave full of many goblins, and rescue the fair maiden, coming out to return her to a knight. For some of this it might have been easy, but for another it might have been hard, and only to make the situation worse, you are handed two wands. For a fighter who has no use for these, I could be a complete letdown. For any other who might know what they do, they become pretty firewood, or sit in a spellpouch. Nobody wants to trade them, nobody wants to use them. So here in lies the dilemma, why is it we are continually handed wands when the trend of wands never seemed to catch on? It's like a dead fish in water.
Is it possible to move these to an additional side item of the RMI. So they are handed out more like oh here is your reward, but have this on top of it? Not here have a wand, and continue on your way? They aren't something that lasts forever, or is easily traded. For that fact, they aren't even easily recharged.
Wands
Re: Wands
Gwain discharges them and uses the sticks as toothpicks
I'm all for making wands sellable or at least labelling them so that we can form proper strategies to use them effectively in combat. Or at least being able to charge them with other spells or prayers via a skill, trade or mobile.

Justice is not neccesarily honourable, it is a tolerable business, in essence you tolerate honour until it impedes justice, then you do what is right.

Re: Wands
I always saw the wands portion of RMI like every time you pull the lever on the slot machine and didn't win anything. You know that combination feeling of annoyance, sadness, disappointment, and disillusionment? That's the one.
Wands, overall, are garbage. They're supposed to be useful for some classes, but they simply aren't on FK. As someone who plays fighters, I see this as a good candidate for a trade-in system as has been discussed before. Either that, or just get rid of them. I'd rather have fifty copper. At least I can use that.

You can still sell them to a vendor.Selveem wrote:Either that, or just get rid of them. I'd rather have fifty copper. At least I can use that.
I agree, though, that they have long been without any concrete footing to hold them up on the RMI table. It's the bane of every fighter to kill 9000 baddies and walk away with 3 wands as a reward.

Re: Wands
Maybe, but at one point there was only one vendor in the entire game and that guy never had money from everyone else selling to him. And, at one point his ability to purchase wands was removed.Aldren wrote:You can still sell them to a vendor.Selveem wrote:Either that, or just get rid of them. I'd rather have fifty copper. Re: Wands
I realize the vast majority of people don't really have a use for wands. However, myself, being a yound wizard find them incredibly useful. They are not the grandest thing ever, but do serve a good purpose for some. If you do not want them then sell them, either to a merchant or a lower level wizard etc than can get good use out of them.
I have yet to get a wand as a quest reward, so not sure exactly how common they are. I however have gotten plenty of melee style items that I have no use for.

Re: Wands
I am not exactly sure how the RMI table works, but would it be possible to put the items into separate tables according to class and then check against the players class and reward accordingly? Example, you finish Bob's quest, he says here is your reward. Maybe some kind of if check could work here? Very crude and elementary example coming,
If class = warrior then pull from table 1,2,5
Have like 1 = full plate armor, 2 = half plate, 5 = weapons.
or
If class = wizard then pull from table 4,5,7
4 = cloth armor, 5 = weapons, and 7 = scrolls
As I said before, not sure how it is set up now, but something like this would go a long way to helping people get things they could actually use. Just a thought!
