NPC clerics and restoration

Post by Gwain » Mon Mar 25, 2013 6:04 pm

Now that various mobiles can drain your levels with impunity and at higher frequency than before, I would suggest adding restoration to cleric or priest npc's for purchase. If players end up waiting more than several in game days for a cleric pc to come around to cast restoration on them then they are sunk, and they've lost their levels, xp permanently. This way they can go and get the levels back with relative ease at a cost reflecting the expensive prayer.
Justice is not neccesarily honourable, it is a tolerable business, in essence you tolerate honour until it impedes justice, then you do what is right.

Spelling is not necessarily correct :)

Agreed. Especially in the off periods, there aren't enough clerics around that PC restoration is a viable option for all alignments, especially the monstrous races.

As someone who has lost quite a number of levels, I strongly agree.

AH! I'm such a newbie! I didn't even know this spell existed! You mean all those levels I lost didn't HAVE to be permanent!? I am in full, full agreement with this suggestion.

My biggest support for this suggestions come from the fact that there is no warning, anywhere, for players to avoid this scenario. I ventured into an area that was considered a 'Low-Level Quest Area'. Perhaps I went a room too far, but the next thing I knew I was losing levels at each smack.

The more I explore (and make a conscious effort to avoid creatures with this level-sapping ability), the more common I find it to be.

It used to, I think. It doesn't currently.

On a slightly different tack... if level draining is a common threat, perhaps a comment about how to counter it would be appropriate in the character generation process as well?
