Knowledge Skills - What do they do?
Knowledge Skills - What do they do?
Knowledge-Geography and the like ... what do they do? I have heard a couple of theories but is there a consensus?
Re: Knowledge Skills - What do they do?
Knowledge skills only have bearing when you are dealing with an NPC soft-coded to check against a knowledge skill. They have no hard-coded benefit. So, to be clear, there are no innate functions to those skills; they do not automatically influence your interactions or your use of other skills. They only use for knowledge skills is if you encounter an NPC programmed to check specifically against your ability in that skill.

Oh, cool. Theory-crafting was such a fail on this one.Harroghty wrote:Knowledge skills only have bearing when you are dealing with an NPC soft-coded to check against a knowledge skill. Theories ranged from improved movement through regions you are familiar with, to extra chances to "find" things like wild onions, plants, etc.
Thanks for the answer!
Re: Knowledge Skills - What do they do?
I also use these sorts of skills to guide my RP a bit. If I don't have any knowledge (geography), for example, I RP someone who tends to get lost easily in the wilderness, etc.
Re: Knowledge Skills - What do they do?
It could theoretically help you find plants in the wilderness, if that were a part of the plant's program (or a part of a program on the invisible mobile running the plants).
Dolifer, that's ideal; they really exist to help support your role-play in a way that an admin can look at your PC and say, "He knows the wilds, or magic, or whatever else".

Does it seem though that they are specific to certain spots? I might get an increase of knowledge from the Ardeep, but still get lost in the High Forest.Harroghty wrote:It could theoretically help you find plants in the wilderness, if that were a part of the plant's program (or a part of a program on the invisible mobile running the plants).

I'm not going to explain precisely how it works because that would ruin it a little bit, but you will learn different areas at different speeds probably.
