clothing and armour layering

Post by tiyari » Wed Nov 05, 2014 1:37 am

I've been having trouble with this since I came into the game. I'd like to ask for any help possible, and perhaps throw out a few ideas.

When my char came into the game, she had hose and sleeves that were worn close to the skin, i.e. beneath armour.

I have looked high and low for something like this in-game, to no avail. I've found shirts and pants, hose and sleeves, other cloth clothing, and it's all set in the various armour layers.

I saw something somewhere (can't remember where now) in one of the helpfiles about wearover, wearunder, and one other command I can't remember. This seems to only effect scabbards, saying something like, "You lower a leather scabbard down your belt." I tried "wearunder sleeves" and it still targeted the scabbard.

The argument could be said that I'm a girlie girl and I like my clothing, but it's more than that. :)
I understand that games aren't always realistic, what with fantasy and mythical creatures. However, wearing armour with nothing beneath it is just wrong, in my opinion.
:P

Because I am unable to look at pictures or go to places to look at fake replicas of medieval armours and weaponry, I have no reference point to know what would be appropriate to wear under any armour, regardless of type. All I know is what other people on other games have done. Some just roleplayed that while they were wearing only armour they were actually wearing clothing underneath that was invisible and therefore up to the imagination. Others would wear clothing that got damaged over time, as did the armour. I've also seen where people wear clothing and armour with more layers available, and never change into other clothing, for casual lounging or to dress up or any other occasion.

Is it possible to relayer clothing with a command? If not, may I suggest that one be added, or the wearover/wearunder commands be checked to see whether they are buggy or only for scabbards?

Are there items in the close-to-the-skin slot that one can purchase in-game, and if so, how would I go about asking? I've tried both in and out of character, and the people I spoke with had no idea, or just told me of clothing that's around in various stores. The clothing and other selection of armours is awesome, but the layers, in my opinion, are limiting, not so much in number as in being able to relayer clothing.

Somewhat related, I am sooo happy to find out that tailors/merchants can resize clothing! That really made my night last night
:)

Thanks for any help.

There are some scabbards with a command to change layers, but this predates a change by Mask which makes belt layers meaningless (any belt object can be worn now on any belt layer).

In general, only cloth type armor can be worn under. I could this to some cloth type clothing, but that's an Augean task that I'm not really interested in taking on right now. There are lots of cloth objects which are layer under. You will have to get suggestions IC, but I'm sure that your PC can find another female PC to take her shopping if that's your thing.

Thanks for your honesty. It's appreciated.

I've looked in several cities, and every clothing piece I've examined has been cloth, but set to the armour layer, not close to the skin, except in the cases of cloaks.
I'll keep looking IC. I admit to some frustration with this, but that's just because unsolved puzzles drive me a little crazy. Heheh.

I was thinking there would be variety of layer options, but maybe I'm just missing something that's right under my nose! We'll see.

Thanks again so much.
