Vampire's level drop

Post by Terageld » Mon Jan 05, 2015 12:23 pm

I'm not sure if this is a bug or not. When I fight vampires, I would often get the message "You just dropped a level." This seems a bit too extreme. I was stuck between two vampires and after a few minutes, I dropped five levels.

Post moved from "Bug Reporting" to "General Discussion". This is not a bug; vampires, and some other creatures, have the ability to drain levels.

5 levels? Ouch.

Go find a priest and talk to them about this sad state of affairs IC. I believe I saw something somewhere about this in one of the helpfiles.

In SRD the vampire's energy drain (as well as that of some other beings, as Harroghty mentioned) can drain multiple levels (2) each round in which the vampire's foe is hit with a slam attack or any other natural weapon. I'm almost positive vamps don't work like this in FK, but even so, I'd count myself lucky to lose only five... I've seen and heard of people losing many times more than that in a single FK fight.

Hurray for priests! :D

The help file in question is the one for energy drain.

and at lower levels you will lose multiple levels very quickly, at higher levels you will likely loose 1 and a bit.
I trained up double-edged bananas because the uber-plantain of doom I scored from the beehive quest was the best weapon in the game. Now it's being treated like a bug and they have gimped its damage! That's not fair! My character is ruined!

Just be fortunate that they don't turn you into a newt.

Wait... witches do that. Nevermind.

I was with someone who lost 20 levels from a vampire once. Oops.

This is getting out of hand. I need some help. I'm trapped in a loop where I can't flee. I'm trapped in a cave, it's cold, I'm hungry, and my back itches and I cannot itch it because Terageld is too manly to itch himself. Oh yeah, almost forgot, I'm down 13 levels and currently Terageld's manliness has been reduced to that of the skinny kid that sits by himself in the lunch room. If an imm can just push me south two rooms, that will be great.

I do believe I handled this via ask the other day. You went there ICly and need to call on some friends ICly to help you get out. People know exactly where this place is and more than likely with a few nice words will be happy to come get you out of the situation.

I'm out of the vampire loop now. Time for some serious level grinding.

You should actually feel lucky that it was only five though. As others have mentioned, many lose way more than that when they run into a coven of vampires. My cousin lost nearly 25 levels on his ranger when he got ambushed and was forced into a flee loop.

Gained 2 levels back after a good four hours... I'm so sick of goblins.

By the way, does anyone roleplay when level grinding alone? I find myself doing that sometimes. It be like:
The goblin warrior is DEAD!
You get 1 gold coin.
You get 3 silver coins.
You get 8 copper coins.
You kick the corpse of a goblin warrior a few times and mutter something immature.
You mope around, grumble, and wait for goblins to anger you.
