rescue skill

Post by Yemin » Thu Jun 25, 2015 11:22 pm

Would it be possible to have the rescue skill rescue the target from all aggressors instead of just one at a time?

I can see the logistical reasoning for why its one at a time since a victim could be surrounded and one person can only block one side at a time, but at the same time if that were the reasoning you could only rescue a person once per fight, and that would be it. your stuck defending them from that side.

But, Since its not this way, It would help fighters not waste rounds with it, considering how much this skill tends to fail even at adept level and the stats its based on near their In game max.
I trained up double-edged bananas because the uber-plantain of doom I scored from the beehive quest was the best weapon in the game. Now it's being treated like a bug and they have gimped its damage! That's not fair! My character is ruined!

I would love to see a "protect" skill for rescue where it does an autocheck when someone you're protecting in your party gets attacked. If it succeeds then the warrior steps in to immediately rescue the one they've chosen to protect.

In this way the enemy must get through a shield wall in order to reach the soft underbelly of the group (the mages).

I think formation is already supposed to do something like that. But only currently lowers the chance.
Honestly, no one behind front rank should be able to be attacked by anything other than incorporial, flying or large and bigger creatures with reach beyond 5 feet.

I've not found formation middle to be very effective, and its exceedingly rare that I find myself (on any character) in a group large enough to use the rear ranks.

I dunno. I'm just in favor of more skill-based defense systems. Some of that stuff which makes a fighter shine in tabletop.

I believe the 3.5e solution is this:
http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/SRD:Stand_Still

There's no need or use for combat reflexes in the game that I know off, so can go off your consecutive attacks as a fighter / cleric and would make a nice replacement for quick draw since that doesn't work in game currently.

So to clarify. when anyone else in your group gets *approached* or swung at, for an attack this automatically kicks in to try and rescue them using your attack bonus for however many attacks you have per aggressor in that round. then it keeps doing it till everyone is beating on you.

That or .. well, just make the rescue skill rescue a target from all attackers like i suggested above I guess lol.
