Fly fails
Could fly be made to negate falls from flying mounts?
To clarify, I mean when you have some form of flight on you I'm not sure on what version or reasoning is used in the behind the senes of magic theory and such. But normally if you already have the capability of flight and are on a mount that also flies. You can't usually fall all the way to the ground before doing something about it.
Also, out of curiosity, Did flight use to negate attacks from creatures without a ranged weapon? If so why was this removed? Alot of dungeons force PCs to "walk" through them as is so yeah.

I trained up double-edged bananas because the uber-plantain of doom I scored from the beehive quest was the best weapon in the game. Now it's being treated like a bug and they have gimped its damage! That's not fair! My character is ruined!
Re: Fly fails
Fly, spells like it, and flight conferred from a mount once did remove a PC from the range of melee weapons. This was removed because of a tremendous amount of abuse. Players would fly over areas far more challenging then they would ever enter on foot and lob spells or missiles with impunity. In theory, this is a legitimate action but it was not so in reality; it only meant that players could repeatedly solo areas in a voracious and OOC manner. I mean OOC because this practice ignored the possibility that semi-organized opponents like the ogres of Hartsvale would not, after being mowed down repeatedly, employ their spell casters or begin to throw rocks, etc. to prevent PCs' attacks from above.

Re: Fly fails
I thought it was something like that.
That kind of behaviour does point out to me though that a plethera of areas Are unusually under-represented in spellcasters, and ranged attackers. I don't feel its a greatly noticed or at least complained about wrinkle in FK So I guess the only thought I have on that is that if such things are put into previously melee only areas. The people implementing it should take into consideration that the challenge of a fight goes up expenentially when you add ranged and magic so the melee combantants should probably be levelled down to compensate.
What about immunity from falling from a mount, whether in flight or not though?

Re: Fly fails
I believe at some point in the past flying would negate harm if you fell off a flying mount. I don't know if that is still the case.
Justice is not neccesarily honourable, it is a tolerable business, in essence you tolerate honour until it impedes justice, then you do what is right.

Re: Fly fails
Nowadays you need to have landed to be able to mount.

If this is the case, that headmaster guy (Don't know his name. I don't play wizards) at the School of Wonder offers you coin or a potion when you deliver his package from Express Deliveries. If you choose potion, he gives you a potion of flying goodness and tells you that "land-based enemies cannot attack you." Maybe we should cut that part out.

It no longer does for some reason. Was there a reason this was taken out?Gwain wrote:I believe at some point in the past flying would negate harm if you fell off a flying mount. I don't know if that is still the case.

Likely because riding now requires you to be mounted, and if you are flying while mounted it is because it was cast /after/ you mounted up and doesn't really show.Yemin wrote:It no longer does for some reason. Re: Fly fails
You used to be able to mount whilst still flying?
Seems a lil' weird to me. I would've thought since the spell is technically still active it could have a few effects. I.e., it shows on your Affected list and so on.

Re: Fly fails
Oh nevermind. It seems I was being thick. It does still negate the damage yes. but only whilst your *flying* as you said. Could that effect be made to work whilst the spell is on your affected list? Since at the moment the only way to actively fly is to cast the spell after your mounted / drink potion / whateverYemin wrote:You used to be able to mount whilst still flying?
