Odd question regarding text color
Odd question regarding text color
Random thoughts:
Which color have you chosen to display when your character speaks and why?
Parsley's color is green, it's the default but also it is the one I would choose matching the color of your garnish of choice, Parsley.

Re: Odd question regarding text color
My account has default yellow. However on many chars I use opaque white, mostly because of habit in my previous muds.

I see voice colors as a mix between personality/faith and what the voice would actually sound like. A tiny, cute voice in pink, a whispy, quiet voice in grey, a jaded, war-worn voice in dark red.
Obstacles are those dreadful things you see when you take your eyes off your goal.

I also get that, from the say colors of a pc. For myself, I try to make it a mixture of their personality, as well as their faith, if that's a possibility.

I used purple (50) for Harroghty for many years to represent, originally, his devotion to Torm and, later, his heraldry. Last year I changed it to bright white (F0) for an event and decided that I preferred it because the associations with bright white seem a better match for his persona.

I chose brown because I felt an earthy colour might better represent a low voice, a slow speech and a characteristic sense of humility. I choose to keep it because I couldn't imagine a better speech colour for Alitar.

I picked the default because ... I didn't know until this thread that you could change it.

Re: Odd question regarding text color
I picked dark green for Aramil because being an elf he has a natural affinity for greenish, foresty colors and its subduedness matches his usually quiet and serious demeanor and low voice.

I'd pick Bright blue for Yemin because he's a go getter boy scout and Mers probably violet or purple... because they used to be royal colors and his one mission in life is to be a royal pain in the butt. More seriously, He's wizard to his core and I associateviolet / purple / bruised pink with the magic you dig deep for, the blood mage questionable sort that you know you shouldn't touch but you do anyway.
I trained up double-edged bananas because the uber-plantain of doom I scored from the beehive quest was the best weapon in the game. Now it's being treated like a bug and they have gimped its damage! That's not fair! My character is ruined!
Re: Odd question regarding text color
Bright green is the default for my account.
Lylena is a deep red due to the mix of faith and how I imagine her sounding. I imagine her with a deepish tone, and since she doesn't really sport much red elsewhere on her, it was one way in my mind of giving her something.

Having characters with "all of the above", yes. Faith/personality are definitely my main reasons for picking some of the colors I've picked.Aishe wrote:I see voice colors as a mix between personality/faith and what the voice would actually sound like. Terageld's fiery red voice is useful for booming across the ship deck. It contrasts the color of the ocean and really gets the sailors pumped up.
On an unrelated note, anyone know why there's no orange color?

I think SMAUG has no colour capacity for orange or something.
Justice is not neccesarily honourable, it is a tolerable business, in essence you tolerate honour until it impedes justice, then you do what is right.

Re: Odd question regarding text color
Anastacia speaks in bright red because it's a color of both passion and anger. She's quite temperamental, so it works. Also it's the color of a lot of the Lovite things, so it also matches most of what she wears.

Re: Odd question regarding text color
Celric's text is purple because his player likes the colour.
What are you talking about? What, that guy?
That was like that when I got here.

There is a historical reason behind the lack of orange but I can't for the life of me find it. If I remember correctly, there is also no orange in MS-DOS.Gwain wrote:I think SMAUG has no colour capacity for orange or something.
For anyone that doesn't know how to make a change to text of any kind in the game, you find the options with the COLOUR command. For a list of colours you can use, the command is COLOUR LIST.
e.g. if you want to change your say text to bright red, you would type "COLOUR 11 9". 11 is the option for say text, 9 is the code for bright red within the colour command. Note that the colour codes used in this context are not the same numbers as the colour codes that are used within areas or in PC descriptions.
You can change the colour of any of the items that are listed under COLOUR, from say and tell to damage or death messages. There are some options that are not ones visible to everyone and I have no clue what the Tactical ones at the bottom are for.
Feel free to used ASK or send me an otell if you can't figure it out.

I picked Gray for Beskytter because in my mind it helped him stand out a little (back when I first started here and everyone I met had the default yellow) and because I thought of him as having this marble like quality to way he composed himself. (This last bit has since changed, but I just think he's been so RP'd by now that you really shouldn't just up and change the color.)
I picked dark green for Eyolf simply because he's a foresty type. He lives in trees and has feathers in his hair, hugs animals in the woods and is vegan. Dark green just 'felt' right for this sort of person, bright green felt too bubbly for him and anything else would have seemed to deep or off for him. (Like brown, gold, gray, red/ochre, etc.)
I think using a color to help establish your character isn't only tied to faith/personality. Though I tend to use two different colors for each character. Besky's tells are dark red in contrast to his gray speech, to help distinguish between his spoken word and his thoughts. It seems like an important way to make your character unique.
@Ungtar -- I always thought that Ungtar's voice sounded yellow. He's an orc, typically when you think of orc you think of yellow teeth and bad breath, so I figured yellow fit him just right.

I'm a raptor, doin' what I can, gonna eat everything till he appearance of man. Yo yo see me, I'm living below the soil. I'll be back, but I'm comin' as oil.

Yes, but he eats a high protein diet of organic, free-range halfling and gets lots of fresh air and sunshine.Beskytter wrote: @Ungtar -- I always thought that Ungtar's voice sounded yellow.
