Orc Tribes

Post by Yonna » Sun Sep 19, 2004 2:21 pm

I was thinking that it would be nice, if when an Orc was created, it had a sort of...Insignia, something like that which the drow get, telling which tribe they belong to. It would enhance the rp a bit and have some inter-tribe quarrels :D . Anyways, Tell me what you think.

Personally I think its a great idea, Orcs are very tribal and very territorial, ie tribe of the Broken tooth - Jagged knife whatever, If its good enough for those nasty drow its gotta be good enough for the orcses

I like the idea as well. Orcs are usually born into a tribe, just like the drow are born into certain houses for the most part. There are some commoner drow who do not belong to a house, which could somehow be coded with the orcs...perhaps you could make it part of the training in the newbie temple at the orc camps. Once you are authorized, you are initiated, so to speak, into the orc tribe of that village. Or if you wish to be of a different tribe, you can choose to not take the offer and either have to apply for another tribe or simply have to find another village and have to do a quest to enter that tribe. Either way, it would probably have to wait until more orc villages are coded into the game. Just my thoughts

Drow get insignias because Drow Houses have them. They are magical in nature, the item is required for the enchantments and so forth.

Orcs on the other hand, while fiercely tribal also do not have a magic amulet for every orc. Orcs don't have real nobility casts, and if anything those Chieftans and Sons of Chieftans etc get killed off faster than any drow noble. To this I'm saying embrace the crudeness of orcs, tattoo or ritually scar your tribe's symbol and name in the description of your orc.

Exactly Isaldur, I didn't mean that it had to be exactly like Drow, I was mainly touching on the fact that it would be nice to have set tribes sort of like the set houses of the Drow. Tattoos are a great idea.

Can't help but thinking -

Why do you want something that makes drow unique and different used on another race?

Just my thoughts. :)

It may seem that way at first, but if you think, it is quite different as Isaldur has said. Orcs do not have a nobility system, but are ruled by the strongest of their tribe. There would be competitions for leadership and fought to the death, or one would back down and give leadership (which does not happen very often I am sure). I can see maybe even having only one or two tribes, others may come in later, but two should be more than enough. Tribes are a major part of Forgotten Realms orcs. I just thought to bring them to the surface of FK, possibly inviting more rp with orcs.

I like the idea, but I don't think its a good idea at the current time. In theory this is a great idea having large tribes slam together in chaotic showings of bloodshed, but right now its probably not possible.

You have to have a LARGE amount of orcs/evils to make this idea work to its fullest. Although allowing orcs to be created again will help put a small burst of evils created to the game there is still not enough to make this idea possible.

you will end up having two orcs, with different symbols for their perspective tribes, yelling at each other.....

Evils at times can be a small group already, no reason to divide them up even more....especially such a specific group, thats already narrowing down the amount of people you start with.

As is, there is already a pecking order with the Orcs. And if you ever want to move up all you need is to challenge the other to a spar. Saying that, I do like the idea though, to be honest, there aren't enough orcs around to support this system and the fact that there is only one orc camp, thus, one orc tribe. :)

I like Isaldurs idea of just putting possibly a tattoo or something in description to RP being in that certain tribe. I don't know much about Orcs in FR, maybe someone could post all of the different tribes you could RP as and maybe there traits of each tribe and where they usually reside/come from. As long as it is ok with Mystra and the others :)

As for not enough orcs, the drow is sorted into houses and there is only a few PC drow. My point is it probably won't unbalance the game.

Overall I think this is a good idea that would enhance RP between Orcs quite a bit.
