[Mining] Finding Ore beyond One's Skill

Post by Areia » Sun Mar 27, 2016 2:42 am

At lower proficiencies with mining, one sometimes finds a vein of ore or gems that cannot be mined because the PC's mining skill is too low.
You find an ore that you realize is beyond your skill to retrieve.
I imagine that this could really happen, where a miner just happens across something that he/she would just destroy completely if he/she attempted to mine it, but in FK I think this only serves to make a frankly frustrating trade only more difficult to deal with at times.

I don't at all want things to be made too easy, but having three characters who mine very regularly I can say that, at the lower proficiencies, mining is already plenty difficult enough even for those who have massive STR and CON scores. I've noticed that going past a piece of ore one can't mine doesn't actually cost any movement points and I think doesn't cause any lag, but all the failed mining attempts in between those pieces do. And at that level even a tiny load will take someone upwards of an hour or maybe more to get through.

For now, the fix is just to move on to a different area, which is an inconvenience for lower level PCs but not the biggest issue by any means. I just think if this possibility could be removed at some point down the road it would give lower level miners (and especially lower level PCs who mine) a slightly better time in the beginning of their mining careers.

Thanks :)
