Critical multiplyer on spells

Post by Yemin » Mon May 02, 2016 12:13 pm

Any chance we could have the standard x2 multiplyer critical hit on a roll of 20 applied to our ranged and offensive touch spells as they are in dnd?

I think the only touch spell we currently have that's exempt from this is harm.

Thanks for reading
I trained up double-edged bananas because the uber-plantain of doom I scored from the beehive quest was the best weapon in the game. Now it's being treated like a bug and they have gimped its damage! That's not fair! My character is ruined!

Spells can crit? I was under the impression magic was the only thing that couldn't crit?

Under the Range section in the site's Magic Overview:
D20SRD wrote: Touch

You must touch a creature or object to affect it. A touch spell that deals damage can score a critical hit just as a weapon can. A touch spell threatens a critical hit on a natural roll of 20 and deals double damage on a successful critical hit. Some touch spells allow you to touch multiple targets. You can touch as many willing targets as you can reach as part of the casting, but all targets of the spell must be touched in the same round that you finish casting the spell.

Hence actually I was wrong. Even harm can score a critical hit my bad.

Mmm, from what it says touch spells (not ranged touch) can crit. So spells like harm, chill touch, ect could crit. I support crits for touch spells, as it's a comparibly small list of spells vs a large assortment of ranged touch, aoe, ect.

If I am wrong about ranged touch, I still support it. Casters are doom on wheels as it is, but I don't see why they couldn't have an occasional crit.

Touch spells are split into melee touch and ranged touch.

A ranged touch spell is still a touch spell but not all ranged spells are touch spells.

The bit quoted above can be misleading because most of the text is speaking specifically about melee touch spells due to the reach comment but note where the full stops are.

Does that make sense?
I can post further examples if need be

Everything was crystal clear! I think this would be good to have in.
