Thief description

Post by Legault » Sat Oct 09, 2004 10:40 pm

I have started a new thief character. I want to get across the point of a shadowy, dark, kind of personality. I cant figure out what a good description would be. If you can help let me know. Thanks

Your personality needs to be in roleplay, not description. :) Someone can be a gorgeous tiny blonde chick and have a horridly dark and morbid personality, someone could be incredibly dark haired and pale and be the sweetest person alive. :)

Allright, Mele is saying that is doesnt matter what you look like it is just how you RP... Yes a GOOD Description always helps but the RP is the most important

More often than not, a persons personality subconsciously comes through in their appearance. Alot of people use clothing and colours to define this but thats not part of the description so we'll skip it.
You suggest Legault that the charecter has a general personality that is shadowy and dark. An easy way to go is write out a normal description. Height, hair colour, eyes, face, skin colour, blemishes, scars and anything of note. Then from that modify your choice of words to convey the personality behind what we are seeing. To do this, think about how a personality affects appearance.
For example, a person who is depressive or sullen or hides away from the world does not neccessarily have "fair skin, unblemished by the sun". While it is true and accurate, the words don't convey what you might mean. Instead try "chalk white skin that hasn't seen much sun" or even something as simple as "He has pasty white skin." This gives us more the impression we are looking for yet has said exactly the same thing.
The first phrase I used gives the impression of a beautiful person who just likes the indoors. The second two gives us the impression of person who has chosen the indoors because they don't like whats outside.
Thats just a small example which you can then broaden out to how does a personailty affect lifestyle since lifestyle does affects appearance. If my example char is a sullen indoors person, they probably do not exercise much. How does this affect muscle tone? Do they eat alot of "comfort foods"? How does that affect their appearance? So on and so forth.

Back to your char Legault and what you need to do is ask yourself, does their "shadowy and dark" personality affect their physical appearance, and if so, in what ways. Then try and use words to bring that to life.

Hope this helps
