The unofficial monster contest comment thread

Post by Narishmar » Sat May 20, 2017 9:48 am

So I took part in the recent monster contest hybrid thing and must say that I am proud of myself. I wanted to talk about that, and more importantly other people's monsters but it didn't seem appropriate to just put it on the contest board itself. So here we are!

With that said I have two comments. First off the undead rose thing Jarngron made is my person favorite, it is wicked cool. Secondly I love the Roc Lobster, it is punny in a way that makes me grin every time I look at the picture. Because it would honestly terrify me.

I think almost entirely in puns. Several monsters had to be cut for being too awfully punificent.
Just to name a few,
Aquatic Elephants (Swimming Trunks)
Clockroaches and Thermites (fun fact: same insect family)
Gear Falcon (gyrfalcon, hehehe)
Geo-Cetacea (land whale, was gonna be a mega Bullette)
Just to name a few. It was very difficult to come up with ones that weren't puns somehow, and a few failed to not be puns (see clockatrice and the thinly veiled book wyrm).
Anyway, thanks for liking the roc lobster, I was certainly giddy drawing the goofy thing! It was fun to write out too, though originally it was the only pun I intended to allow myself but that plan failed huh?

Alfred Hitchcock said, "Puns are the highest form of literature." I don't know if they are really the highest, but I do enjoy a good (or bad) pun!

Congratulations Jarngron! For winning the contest with your weird Dwarftopus thing. I would as well like to congratulate Rordan for coming in second with his Lich. I myself came in second and I would like to imagine I might have come in first, if only I would have remembered to draw ears on my Troll.
