Drow Chainmail

Post by Zilvryn » Tue Sep 07, 2004 2:35 pm

Does Drow Chain act like elven chainmail and not have the armour penalty of normal chainmail?

Honestly, this game is a hybrid of 2e and 3e. If you'll notice, there is no multiclassing in this game, yet there are other 3e aspects pertaining to classes.

I'd have to look at the actual object coding of the drow chainmail to see if it is classified as a "chainmail" or not. And right now, I don't have the access to the game =\

I was under the impression yes, though the drawbacks are it cant touch sunlight.
Glim asks Gwain 'Can I be on the watch?!?'
Gwain raises an eyebrow.
Gwain seems to display a look of complete horror for a second...

I was reading an interesting article about why this was taken out in the 3E system. I'll try to find a link if I can, but it was mainly about how this system made it so there was less treasure for the parties even though the enemies were tough. Though here, we can still at least sell the items.

Seeing as the game is down, I thought I would fill my bored morning by searching for the articles mentioned by Natasha, alas, I could not find the one that I was thinking of, but the article below is a brief rant by one of the designers of the FRCS about why they changed the way adamantite worked in 3rd Ed...

Hopefully some people may find it answers some questions they might have, if not, heh, it filled 30mins or so of my morning trawling google ;)

I hope this is alright to say. Well, the reason that drow items ceased to degrade and their powers could come to the surface without deminishing is explained in the Liriel Baenre books by Elaine Cunningham. Liriel is Gromph Baenre's daughter, and a very talented wizard, but she wanted to see the surface AND keep her drow magics, so when she got ahold of a human artifact, she went on a quest for this cause. The artifact was more powerful then she realized, though, so when she completed her quest, as an unintended side effect her entire race was given that gift. So drow-made armor and such things ceased to degrade. Now, I'm not saying that it should be that way in this game or anything, just trying to help people understand. It's advisable that you read that trilogy if you have more questions.
