I know this has been addressed in another topic, but there was no real definate answer. I know how the players feel about this iffy subject, but I wanted official word about this.
Just how ok is killing a mount? I was really looking for some Imm rulings on this.
Please don't take this as a gripe, it just seems to me there was never a clear answer or ruling about this, which seems a controversial issue.
Mounts
I know you're looking for a ruling from the imms on this one, but as far as I know, I'd have to agree with Exer, pointing out that 99% of the time, it is really poor RP. Who in their right mind kills a horse that's just standing there? Picture seeing a horse, looking at your sword, and making some kind of link to a desire to kill that horse... How likely is that? The only time I can see this making any sense is maybe with an orc who wants supper. But even then, if you've left your mount outside of a city and alone, You then become the one who is RPing badly (unless your character really doesn't care about his/her mount, in which case, this problem shouldn't come up). And, inside a city, there are stables... horses left in streets likely would be taken away by thieves, city guards or strangers and considered abandoned. So, no, I am pretty sure it is not against the rules to kill a mount. But, this is an RP enforced mud if I am not mistaken, and if you go around killing mounts and it is out of character for you to do so, the imms will frown upon this. I think both mount-owners and mount-killers both have a responsibility to roleplay correctly, and if that's followed, common sense should prevail.

Well, think of this as well: you own a mount to hold equipment and move through the wilderness more quicky. When you have to head to a nasty dungeon or wherever, you must leave your mount outside. It is then that they are vulnerable, but you obvious cannot stable them or else that would defeat the whole purpose of bringing them.(and essentially half their purpose overall) So it's really not fair to say "stable your mount" if you don't want your mount to be killed. If that was the solution, my mount would never leave for fear of it being killed if I left it alone...
EDIT: Oops, I posted that kinda late. Sorry!

Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and go well with ketchup.
Well, that's the thing, there are a few places where you leave you mount in the open to enter a dungeon. But if I were you, I'd make sure not to leave it at the entrance. Not only to keep it away from potential thieves, but from any dungeon inhabitant that might be coming back home hungry.
Just my 2 cents.
Just my 2 cents.
Mounts
Mounts are not mobile dwellings. Yes, we allow you to carry more on a mount than is really IC possible. Yes, when you stable a fully-loaded mount you should rp that you are also renting storage space for your belongings. Yes, we think it would be cool if you saved up the cash and applied for a dwelling (especially in a city other than WD to promote rp *grin*).
BUT!!!!! If you leave your mount outside a dungeon, in or near a dangerous city or in the wilds, you are exposing them to that danger IC. The are allowed to be attacked, stolen from etc. Just as in any pkill, the one who kills the mount may only take ONE item. RP must be allowed for.
Recently we know of a player who killed a mount, looted everything and sold the items within a matter of a few minutes real time. This is against the rules because more items than allowed were taken and NO rp was made available to the victim.
Be considerate OOC of the victim. Do not take items you KNOW are needed to complete a quest. That's OOC mean. While your CHARACTER may be that way, real PLAYERS should be more considerate. Take only an item that is IC for you to take. There is no reason for a thief to take a mammoth two-handed sword over a piece of expensive jewelry easily pocketed, or for a monster orc fighter to take a frail little wand over a mammoth two-handed sword.
That's more detail than I wanted to give because the rules are not yet final, though I suspect there will be little debate on this particular aspect. If the rules posted later differ with what I have said here, defer to the posted rules/faq.
