I had questioned about this skill at one point, and was answered by one of the newbie council members. First, I'd like to say the member who answered, did so to the best of her ability, and thank you to her for spending the time to speak with me. Now...the question was weather or not the skill would increase over time. Concentration, if I am not mistaken, is a check required to succede before successfully casting a spell. The problem I have come across is that it doesnt seem to improve with use. If I am mistake, correct me please. I have a spell at which I am expert. I used to be able to cast that spell over and over, and fail about 1 of every 10. Now, under circumstances which have actually improved, I fail about 2 of every five, getting the echo 'you lost your concentration'.
If someone could let me know if this will be something that will eventually improve, or not, that would be great. Thankyou.

Personally never seen an improvement in concentration beyound that which was trained. This would be considering all my caster characters. But that usually does not mean much. Took me about 30 hours of constant work on some skills/trades/spells to see them go up on point and others go up in a faction of the time. Concentration could be bugged not to increase, or it could simply be one of those skills that takes an extended time to improve on. Not sure personally, but a reasurring word or two from someone knowledgable would be nice. :)

Concentration as a requirement for spellcasting was not activated until the recent code update. I would hazard that this is why no-one has previously seen an increase.. it was not affecting or being affected by player use

Now that concentration is a requirement, you will see all those new spell failures showing up. Conversely, spell success will likely be now contributing towards your increasing in the concentration skill.

Give it some time and you will all likely see an increase. If none happen in the next month or so then it may be that its something that needs reporting as a bug...

If they are not too busy it may be that one of the coders or testers gets a chance to check after reading these posts

I have concentration on a list to be checked for increases. It may take a little time as Ursan stated since its not at the top of the list. If it is found to not be increasing it will be reported to the coders.

I was curious as to if a change to concentration could be added: If you are in combat you still have a chance to fail (whereas right now you never fail unless hit) I think that this should be a lesser chance of failure than if you are hit, but still be there. The reason for my thinking this is because when you are combat, you are moving about, attacking with your weapon, and the noise from the person you are fighting would ICly in my opinion affect how well you can CONCENTRATE on your spell.

In short I think concentration should be changed to where you still may fail a check in the concentration skill, but it would be a lesser chance of failure then if you were being hit.

Hopefully that's understandable enough :)

I think the goal of the Admins on making the spells as they are now, is that is how they are in DnD. In DnD you make a Concentration check when hit, for damage, or for other special reasons. Combat isn't taken into account because it is assumed that your character is battle hardened in some way, so there are no checks neated for fighting going on around you.

Well, I don't really see a young wizard being very 'battle-hardened' and I just can't see ICly a low level wizard attacking with his weapon, moving about, and having a attacker making noise and also attempting to kill them, without any concentration, and being able to focus on their spell enough to cast it successfully. Just a concentration check that is lower as being hit, but still being there.

Perhaps it is understood that when they learn the skill concentrate, they learn to do exactly that in battle? Speaking from experience, in a real battle, with the right training it is rather easy to keep your thoughts collected and determine your next move/strike, unless of course the enemy has just walloped you good. =P So when you learn to "concentrate" in battle I would assume you also learn to keep calm and stay collected even when you are dodging, striking, ect. It's really only when you're hit do you begin to panic a little, and lose your "concentration" on the battle, spell, ect.

At least that's true for me. :P

Another point with that is that concentration would train much faster than how they intend it to train right now if it were constantly active... It makes more sense to have people that are used to taking blows and casting through it learning how to do it better, rather than getting better at it by standing there and casting spells while a fight is going on.

Why is it that concentration is on the fighters guild skill list?
That dosen't do much really.......

I believe it is in the unguilded warrior set of skills (correct me if I am wrong) and carries over once you are guilded, while not of import to a fighter, it is valuable to a ranger or paladin.

But it is also handy for the upcoming of prestige classes, where some prestige classes prerequire certain feats and skills, and these feats become useful for the prestige class.

Example: One of the prerequisites for a fighter/warrior to become a Bladesinger is concentration. While useless to a fighter, it is indispensible for a bladesinger who specializes in melding casting with armed combat, thus the requirement of concentration to become one.
