Does this alow for stealing from pets as well, as you would a normal person? What I mean is, you cant steal bags from horses just left sitting in a random room that isnt a stable?I need to step in here. While killing someone's mount is allowed, it must be accompanied by very good rp. It falls under our PKill rules and does not allow for looting of the entire corpse. Only one item. Also be OOC considerate of the real player. If a player has spent precious glory getting a rename for their mount, take that into account. Also, if a mount is in a non-coded stable (like those in/near Hartsvale), treat it as if it is stabled.

And, as Lathander pointed out in another thread, if your mount is sitting in a non-coded stable, you should treat is as if it was stabled in code.
If I have this right, non-coded means the stables in some towns and villages that don't offer to stable your pet for coin. If you say "stable" to the stable boy, and they don't reply with a price, then it's a non-coded stable.
From an IC perspective this makes sense. Your horse/cat/dog/whatever, is sitting right there in front of stable workers whose only job is to take care of the critters in the stable. There is no good IC way to justify you walking up to the pet and filching anything off of it, let alone leading the pet itself away or harming it in someway.

If Mystra's dapple mare just happend to be sitting 3s and 1 e of Baerdusk.. And no one was arround.. I could say... Walk up to it, Being a benovelant beasty and all, and coax it to eat this apple.. then pet it.. then STEAL A BAG HANGING FROM HIS SADDLE.. then pet it some more then run like a mad man?
This would NOT be in a stable, Code'd or not.

Re: Pets and Stealing
I believe that mounts are the same as pets and PCs, and stealing from either would result in the same consequences.Cret wrote:Does this alow for stealing from pets as well, as you would a normal person?
Hope I understood you right, Cret.

I am almost positive I have read somewhere that if you steal a bag from a mount, take two items(Or one item, whatever the limit is) and put the bag back. Therefor I would assume bags are targetable on a mount. Although, I would imagine it differs with different horses. For example, a stubborn mule that is reluctant to carry its owner's bags would not mind a thief lifting some of its heavy cargo. A Paladin's warhorse, on the other hand, would recognize the thief as not being its owner and would attack the thief if it tried anything. So I would advise to use discretion.
But, I could be wrong. =D

the stealing off/killing and looting of pets/mounts is the same as when you PK a player. 1 item can be taken and RP has to be taken into consideration..
Lathander wrote:Mounts are not mobile dwellings. Yes, we allow you to carry more on a mount than is really IC possible. Yes, when you stable a fully-loaded mount you should rp that you are also renting storage space for your belongings. Yes, we think it would be cool if you saved up the cash and applied for a dwelling (especially in a city other than WD to promote rp *grin*).
BUT!!!!! If you leave your mount outside a dungeon, in or near a dangerous city or in the wilds, you are exposing them to that danger IC. The are allowed to be attacked, stolen from etc. Just as in any pkill, the one who kills the mount may only take ONE item. RP must be allowed for.
What matters the most is how well you walk through the fire.

RE: Pet killing
I recently lost approximately THREE YEARS worth of items due to my mount being killed during roleplay. Many of those items had no practical value at all, I kept them for sentimental reasons, and I was only able to get a fraction of them replaced by the staff.
On one hand I'm very grateful to the Imms for replacing what they could of the items I lost. On the other hand, I'm still very angry that another player thought it was acceptable to kill my mount when I was kind enough to make SURE that I was in stun mode in order to continue the roleplay without just ending it all with killing them off.
Saving up the cash and applying for a dwelling? I've been approved for a dwelling for almost two years now. I also lost all the cash that I'd saved for the dwelling when my mount was killed. So now I'm back to square one. Does this mean I'll have to wait another two or more years for my dwelling and risk losing everything again to an unscrupulous player who attacked my horse instead of me? I certainly hope not.
Consider well your actions before you kill another player's pet/mount. I literally CRIED when I found out that I'd lost just about everything off my mount.... everything accumulated over the course of three years of playing on this game. Think of how YOU would feel if someone stole or destroyed three years worth of YOUR possessions.

I am just going to bump this quote up.
Due to some recent stealing "activity" in some of the uncoded stables, I think it is about time for some of the incoming Rogues to know that this is what was said about stealing from mounts.
Along with that...I think it is fair to say that the ONE item you can take from a mount ( NOT IN A CODED STABLE) should not be a FULL pack. I was fortunate enough in a particular situation to be hidden near my mount when an attempt was made and though the RP that could have come with this was potentially fun...the person bolted and logged... rather than sticking around. *tsk*
I would recommend that the new Rogues peruse the thief forum and files.
and... bear in mind that just because the horse is sitting in the stable does not mean it is not protected. I imagine... that the Queen in Hartsvale would be ticked if someone went in and butched her lovely mount Blizzard! Enough that, I bet a billion winter wolf guards would show up and beat the stew out of the person who did it! Just imagine all those guards... the next time you *think* it is safe to steal from a mount. ( and I am not even going to touch on the whole FULL, HEAVY pack issue here as I think I would end up getting testy.)
Maybe we could put all our heads together and compile a list of all the uncoded stables that are to be treated as coded stables and post it? Just so people will know ??? I would be willing to work on that if it is something that the imms think would be a good reminder/tool.
Thanks for your time!
