smooth talk feat...

Post by Alaudrien » Thu Mar 31, 2005 1:22 pm

I was looking at feats and was thinking...wouldn't it make sense if smooth talking enhanced the effectivness or up the chance of Influencing..or even charming someone? -chuckle- just a thought! :P

Influence yes, charm person no. Since charm person is just a spell that overthrows the mind of the target, I don't think it matters if your telling them they have nice eyes, or that their mother must have dallied with a goat. :P

*lol* I must have misunderstood Alaudrien's post, then. I thought the "charming someone" wasn't a reference to the spell. If it wasn't, however, I shall still stick to my original opinion - Yes.

And anyways, it would make sense for someone to use sweet talk to flatter and thus influence someone to do something..

As I recall from the help file... we can only use the influence skill on NPC's right? So any attempt to "influence" a player char would be up to RP between the two chars. Can you convince that lvl50 LG figher that him being your meat shield to slay that room full of angry mobs is for the good of all? Guess that will depend on how good your story is. ;)

On the other hand, the skill allows one to RP being able to do the same thing to an NPC, which otherwise couldn't be done short of imm takeover of the mob to do it via RP, right?

Since I have never actually USED the skill, is it code wise, functionally the same thing as a charm? I could see then how it would be abused beyond the true PnP intent of the skill. I am gathering that the intent of the influence skill would be to coax a mob to be a temporary ally, hand over an item needed for an RP or a quest, something of the sort, not to charm some merchant into handing everyting over.

not saying influence on NPCs should not be RPed, a good habit, I find.
Chars: Aryvael et all.
