Napping Feat

Post by Gwain » Tue May 31, 2005 3:53 pm

You are a light sleeper, you can react quickly to attacks even when they come apon you while you are prone and asleep. those that talk around you can be heard even as you close your eyes and drift into slight slumber...

The nap feat would basically allow a sleeping character to hear conversations around them and allow them to react far faster and more easily to attacks on them while they are napping. I can see that you could still recieve tells also, but you would only gain half the healing and regenerative stamina points you would regularly gain from full sleep. In my experience (I nap alot) napping is a light sleep that still holds the body in check but does not allow for a complete release into a deep full sleep. It might be an interesting feat to have, not so much a skill, but something to give characters a bit of awareness as they rest in out of the way places.

I really like this feat.....iwould it be like when you sleep you see SOMEONE says blah blah blah? Or maybe not really catch all of it, or the words are a little messed up like the drunk program?

I think it would have to be someone. The garbled thing is good to. I don't know if words or sentences can be subtracted, meaning that it might take away from the sentences being said as a whole, though even that could be interesting.

Well I think since you are napping you would not really be able to hear perfect sentences.

True enough, someone napping could not here complete sentences until they wake up, I think it would look like:

Someone says " ***** he's asleep let's steal his socks!**********
Someone says " Sock soup like when ******* I hate ducks*******
Someone says "*****all ducks are grand*******sparrow's are mean

and so on, basically ***equals the bits that are cut out of sentences.

it could also be useful if there was more penalty for an actually sleeping character to be attacked, it hardly makes a difference presently.

I believe it makes a big difference, atleast as far as the first round or two of the fight goes. But I could be wrong never attacked anyone sleeping.

Attacking or stealing from someone while they sleep makes it very hard to include them in the RP.
Far away and across the field, the tolling of the iron bell calls the faithful to their knees to hear the softly spoken magic spell.

As far as I can guess as to what sleeping would mean, those first few hits they get on your while you are surprised, it would make sense that your AC and such would be much worsened while sleeping, or even sitting, im not sure if thats what it is but it seems to make sense. This feat could perhaps lessen the penalty on such. Which would come in handy if your ever attacked while sleeping.

Of course, there are other RP benefits as Gwain said. I would like to be able to know while im sleeping if someone comes up on me in the dark. Maybe I could RP having heard it and waking up. I dont necessarily know if I would spend a feat on such, though. But thats just me, of course.

I think this would be more in the case of being jumped by a mob while asleep. Given the rp requirements for PK I can't think of too many situations where you would be allowed to attack a sleeping character.
