Umm, I may be misinterpreting what you said, but I'm not sure if it would be possible to code this. The game does not recognize that if you go north, east, south to get from Point A to Point B, then theoretically Point B is directly east of Point A. (Setting aside for the moment that a game "room" can be anything from a broom closet to a grand hallway, making distance subjective.) Aside from cosmetically altering the gate spell and using a unique mob or a player , essentially it would have to be coded for the spell to recognize two different rooms and create an exit between them.
I believe the game creates a door on that exit in room A and a code-wise separate door on the coressponding exit in room B.
The main purpose of this spell is for mages to have a way to keep lone warriors at bay, as every other class has some way to get through (assuming clerics might get a Magic Key spell but not Magic Door)

I'm not sure if this spell was meant to be implemented as a transportation spell, but more as a magical door that acts as a barrier between two rooms. Basically, making a door between two rooms when there wasn't one before. Maybe have the door disappear when the spell's duration is over? I could see it useful for a wizard using it to buy some time, either to cast a teleportation spell, or prepare, etc.
I think this door should also be able to be dispelled, being that it is magical, and that it should be an illusory spell.

Two questions..
1. How would you know that two rooms are connected, and if they're connected, why wouldn't there be a door to connect the two rooms already?
2. How would you know there're TWO rooms, instead of just one, since you would be in the one you know exists, and there isn't any door to connect the room you're in to the other room?

Must I kill them
To make them lie still

I think I'm being a little misunderstood, not a door as in an entrance, a door as in a barrier that can be locked, unlocked, opened, closed, bashed, etc. Think, a mage being chased by a fighter, he casts a spell and instantly a door appears, with the mage behind it, effectively allowing the mage to make a get away, or prepare. This spell could only be used indoors, and of course PC's would have to use it responsibly, only in ways that would be ICly possible.

ohhh... like a magical box... but... 1/6 of a box... so....an invisible wall? ... but why would one need a key? or a door that would open/close... or have it bashed... that would render it pointless... if the caster created it... they could get rid of it... and if so... do we have a tangle spell that does the same?
What might be even better is the various "Wall of " spells like wall of fire, wall of cold, wall of iron, wall of stone and wall of force. These could all have different effects and different counters. i.e. You can cross wall of fire & cold it just hurts, you could bash wall of stone/iron down and wall of force would need dispel magic to bring it down. All of these should only work indoors and have relativley short durations to act as a detterent to pursuit or a temporary safe place. Otherwise someone could render an area unreachable for quite long periods.
