Faster ticks

Post by Isolrem » Wed Sep 14, 2005 1:43 am

I'd been hesitant to mention this before - not sure of the sweeping changes that might be involved.
But is it possible that ticks can be made shorter than the current 1 min, perhaps 5 or 10 seconds?
It's a very attractive feature, and nice, too that one only has to wait a few seconds to get 99% health to full again

I personally do not like this idea.

It has been stated before about the problems of being able to plow your way through an area, sit for 5 minutes, and continue on at full health. If you were to look at the realism of it, it would takes hours, even days to really heal. Allowing you to heal faster would only be a nice attraction to those who like to twink their characters.

However, perhaps stamina might be able to regen faster? This would have to do a lot with your constitution. I know that during football season when I'm in shape, I'm able to recover my wind in less than a minute. If you had a high constitution (As in, in good shape), you probably could recover your wind quickly.

All in all, though, I think the ticks are fine as they are.

In real life most are ready for action after at most ten minutes of rest. That would probably be enough for the average fighter to be ready to get moving again.

My suggestion is that stamina, when resting, would be recovered about as quickly as mana while meditating.

well, first to clarify: healing would not be faster, but come in faster increments.
of course, it is rather impossible to balance travel speed and healing speed RPly

I don't think healing needs to be any faster. That's what PC priests are for, and most leveling areas have NPC healers right next to them so you don't even have to bring along a priest. If ticks were sped up/mv points were regained faster, IMO there would be similar situations for fighters to what wizards were doing before meditate lag was introduced (fighter goes in/flees/rests, then repeats until the monster is dead).

How about a lag on rest then? Or maybe another skill like meditate... 'Pant', for instance. ;)

It would recover stamina quickly, but there would be a lag to it. If it works for wizards, then it would work for fighters as well, don't you think?

Health should be left unchanged, in my opinion, making health regenerate faster would be unrealistic and it would make priests less worthwile.

... don't fix it.

Tick timer is just fine the way it is.

Want to recover HP and MV faster? Bring a cleric or paladin along with you for those wonderful healing and refresh spells :)

Now I feel a bit stupid, I didn't think of the refresh spell.

Of course, with that in consideration, the ticks are perfectly fine!
