Suggest a Social

Anyone else wish there was a prod social?
Oh the joys of prodding... It'd be the new poke.

I second the motion. Prod would be excellent. Also something between thwap and slap...thwack, maybe.

Yeah, you can do it with emotes...but socials are FUN!

No what we need is an exclamitory "Ah Hah!" One where you point your finger in the air and the imaginary lightbulb turns on over your head.

Of course its been quite some time since I have run the social list so there might be something comperable.....

Aliases are great too if you have a unique "social" for your character, some action s/he does often. Like if your character is a bit slow and takes a while to get some things... Maybe they make a lot of "Ah-ha"'s. ;) I love aliases and I use them all the time for almost all my characters. It really gives them a certain flavour and life, because we all have our quirks and habits, right? :D

Socials which force an action on another character should be removed entirely from the game. As they are now socials such as poke, thwap, tackle, etc all force something on another character with no actual chance of roleplaying avoiding the actions. These sorts of socials have no real place in a roleplay enforced environment. If you want to poke at someone ICly you should emote or smote your intention and then wait for the other character to react or not react to your smote/emote and then do a follow up emote/smote to complete the action or react to the targets reaction rather than rely on base code socials which offer no roleplay enhancement and actually detract from a roleplay atmosphere.

Socials such as smile (target) do not force an action on the other character, they only direct your characters action towards someone who can then react as they see fit in accordance with their roleplay.

I don't fully agree with this, socials like poke, handshake and slap cannot be avoided, but, they can be smoted in an after thought. Look at it as a poke, you get poked, you may smote that you halt the hand or catch it, but otherwise the rp reaction is up to the player being poked. A poker might rp the intent to poke if it were applicable to a situation, but really it's reaction that thrives in such socials. I don't see them as forcing others to rp reaction, I see them as a nonviolent instigation. In essence, you are given a choice to do something or refuse. There are limits of course, someone rping holding a sword to someone's throat or slitting a throat through smote is poor form what's best for that is an intention rp where you leave the result to the other player.

I've been spat at in real life, thwaped in the head, poked and such, In all instances I was not prepared, it is the spice of life the unexpected. though one should use moderation. I would consider it bad rp to be spammed with forty spits. But if you did it once it could happen. The trick is to take everything in stride and not find it hindering oocly but as an ic thing. Sometimes you are forced to rp, but that's rp; if it is unexpected and unplanned it can be interesting.

I believe that socials are there to aid pc's in rping, smoting and emoting take time and skill to master and sometimes when you are new it is good to have some socials. If anything they should not be removed, but instead limited in the amount you can use in one day much like the times you can reward kismet. That way they can be saved for special occasions or one can work to learn to emote or smote to faciliate more rp.

However, if you ever feel you are being constantly abused with socials that force you into certain rp maliciously with no reason, such as a social being used a rediculous amount of times to slap you or such, please email complaints@forgottenkingdoms.com and adress your problem as best as possible if you feel you need to.

Gwain makes some good remarks on this. Just last tuesday I sat for about 5 minutes before choir doing the sudoko puzzle in the newspaper and this girl was kicking my foot. For 5 minutes I ignored her... then I moved my foot. I get pestered like that alot. Just the other day I spent some time between classes actively fending off pokes and tickles and other anoying slaps and touches from a group of girls..... geeze college is a lot like highschool. Or maybye its just the school of music.

Any way I think the socials are fine. If you want to rp fending off the poke and tickle, then smot blocking the poke and tickle. If you just want to ignore it and hope it goes away just roll your eyes and do nothing.

Ah social seems odd

Post by Raona » Sat Nov 19, 2005 2:03 pm

On a related but slightly different note, I sometimes type "Ah" and get the "Ahem" social. It comes off extremely odd. Perhaps an Aha or Ah social?
