spell focus

Post by Orplar » Tue Nov 29, 2005 10:03 pm

Hey again guys,

Just looking for some conformation on the spell focus feat.
Everywhere I type it, I cant get it to work properly, I always get "Ive taught you everything I know about that spell" or "<spellname> is not a spell sphere"

Examples:
train 'spell focus' shield
train "spell focus" shield
train 'spell focus' 'shield'
train "spell focus" 'shield'
train "spell focus" "shield"
train "shield" 'spell focus'
train "shield" "spell focus"

Those are all the ones I tried, or that I can think of right now..

I could get any of these to work, so I there another way to try it? Is the feat even functional for any spell right now? Or, am I really that mud-challenged?

Thanks for your time!

Well, if this was normal D&D, the answer would be hidden in one of his responses. He said that shield is not a spell sphere. That's true. Spell Focus (In D&D) applies to one entire school of magic. The spell Shield is in the school of Abjuration if I'm not mistaken.
But I think it's different in Forgotten Kingdoms. I've never actually gotten the feat, but I have a guess as to why it's not working. Looking at the fine print of the help file:
The trainer must teach the spell you wish to improve, but there is no limit
on how high you can train it using the feat.
Does the trainer teach Shield? If not, then that's probably the reason for it.

I haven't been able to get it to work after trying the same combinations as Orplar's on two different trainers of two different spells.

sort of attempting the certain sphere the magic is contained in? How will we know what spheres the spell lie in? And wich spell it will be giving the proficiency to?

Spell domains are color coded in the list provided when you use the 'spellbook' command. If someone has the time perhaps they could translate that here

Spell Domain Colors

Post by Hviti » Wed Dec 21, 2005 8:48 pm

Hm, as far as I can tell from my spellbook...

Abjuration = white
Conjuration = blue
Divination = grey
Enchantment = pink
Evocation = red
Illusion = cyan
Necromancy = black
Transmutation = green

Don't quote me on that, though :wink: , I'm don't code or anything, I'm just doing that based on my spellbook and D&D spell lists.

To see the spell domains in your list use the command <spell domains>
AKA Tycho, Lamorak, Kayne, Uthric

Man, I was WAY off the mark...

So, if I wanted to train spell focus in say, locate object, I would have to find a trainer who trained spell focus and locate object, then type "train 'spell focus' travel"?

Divination, I believe.

Domains are not the same as schools of magic.

I am still getting the message that it isnt a spell sphere

I typed this .. train 'spell focus' 'magic war'
in hopes of trying to train magic missile... I did several other combonations and still can not do it...

It keeps saying something about spell spheres

Try train 'spell focus' Evocation
Magic Missile is an Evocation spell, after all.

Domains/spheres are for priestly spells. (though at this point I think priests still go by schools)

Schools are for wizardly spells. Just go by the color coding and how Hviti showed it earlier.

alright then, got it to work.

Is there a command that allows you too see what school your spells belong to? And not the domains?
