Stealing from Idle characters - What is the policy?

Post by Cret » Thu Sep 04, 2003 10:05 pm

I am wondering what the ruling is when taking things from an idle persons cart. Is it acceptable because they 'should' be able to stop you? Or should it be baised on Alignment? Or is it just not acceptable? I believe any one can take a cart. Via hitch/unhitch. But I, and probably others, are wondering about this.

I think that respect for fellow players needs to be taken into account. A player who, through no fault of his/her own, goes link-dead while coming back to a cart only to find it ransacked is not going to feel very good about it IC or OOC. Please keep in mind that real people play behind these characters. I am not saying that it should never happen. I am saying that each situation should be looked at and considered with great care before acting. Do not simply look upon a full cart and begin to salivate with greed.

In a similar note. There are some stables that exist without the stabling program on them. If you find a horse or cart in one of these stables, it is reasonable to assume that the owner has IC stabled them. Lack of code for something does not mean you abandon all reason.

A lockable cart is one of the personalised items you can purchase when you own a dwelling. See help dwellings for details.
