Take me to the gate!

Post by Levine » Sat Dec 31, 2005 2:59 pm

I've been waiting a whole day! Oh well.. While the game is down, I remembered some problem that I had..

Hope its not too IC, but a year or two back, I saw the Soldiers walking about Waterdeep, and I noticed that they said something like "I can take you to the North gate for 1 gold.", and "I can take you to the South gate for 1 gold.".

I tried it once.. I gave the guy 1 gold, and he said "Where was I going again !?". From what I remember, at least. Can anyone confirm this?

Well, how do I get it to work, then? Perhaps I should follow him first before I give the coin?

Also, is anyone able to explain the "Where was I going again !?"? I've seen mobs say all this in the weirdest situations, and I have no clue why. *blinks*

Yay, I'm finally doing something on fk. The website, at least. Satisfies my craving just a little. :D

I had a similar problem, without the "Where was I going again?" But he just walked off, I started to follow him, without using the actual follow command, and he led me to the north gate. So it would be my guess that yes, you should follow him first.

My guess is the guard was saying he would take you when he didn't remeber where he was going, so it was just a ploy to get your coin ;)

The guards use a BFS search algorithm to find the shortest path to wherever they are bringing you. It has a 'maximum depth' to bail out of the search if he can't find the way in a reasonable period of time. If they can't find the way, they say 'Where was I going again?!'.

Perhaps this search algorithim needs to be beefed up a bit...

The best one was when the guard leaps off the dock and starts swimming to the gate. :D Otherwise I love the rp possibilities of following a guard through the city instead of being instantly transfered to the gates.
Justice is not neccesarily honourable, it is a tolerable business, in essence you tolerate honour until it impedes justice, then you do what is right.

Spelling is not necessarily correct :)

Basically if a mob thinks it's searching for someone, but doesn't find it, he says "Where was I going again?"

e.g. Someone is chasing you, his status is set to "Follow/Attack <player>", he will track you as long as you are within his mobprog premise. However if you turn invisible, leave the area or in some other way voids his search (would blinding work?)...
"Where was I going again?"

If the state is temporary and his time runs out, he also says that line, which seems somewhat buggy (And I've seen it happen when his current status is removed - like if you are in trouble with the law and being chased by guards but then your legal troubles are resolved all the guards say this line)

Why does this seem only to happen to mobs associated with the local legal system? (e.g. guards)

Because guards always get confused, fail to see the hero, or leave when most convenient! :P
