Key ring

Post by Algon » Sun Jan 15, 2006 8:22 pm

Was thinking that having a key ring made would be a cool thing. It would be a container that you could put all of your keys in. And when you hold the ring and try to unlock a door it checks the keys on the ring to see if you have the right one. THis would be so much better then having 30 keys to go through one at a time.

Great idea! I'm always losing or throwing away keys.

You should be able to wear it upon your belt. =)

On a related topic, I wish the belt could fit more than three layers, but I understand why it can't as the code is for three layers for any location. =)

I agree that this sounds like a useful and practical idea that would find numerous points of merit in the game, and anything that helps organize inventories is a good thing, in my opinion.

The idea of a key ring was brought up on the old boards three years ago, I'm not sure if it was every followed through and if any keyring is in the wings right now. I love the idea though.

Just the right time to see if I've understood the builders lessons correctly. Feel free to steal this if you're building or adding. Play around with it, I couldn't work out how to change it to echo 'attaches <key> to' as opposed to 'put <key> in'

Does that code include the means where when someone tries unlock direction that it searches through the keys in the container?

In some stock codes there is an item that holds only itemtype key and it basically checks they whole inventory of the key ring against the door.

I haven't seen anything like that, but that would certainly be an innovative addition.

One thing that just occured to me is that one won't be able to carry this keyring in a backpack, since it's a container, meaning one'll have to wear it on ones belt, or it'll take up space in ones inventory and, of course, risk being stolen.

From what I recall its an itemtype keyring or something and it used to store inside other containers in a base smaug mud I played many many many years ago.

The general rule of thumb with containers of the basic type is that they should not be stored inside other containers because that has been known to cause crashes in the passed. Hence, item_type_containers should be worn or inventory only.

Slightly off topic, a cool idea for an item would be a set of key rings with a certain number of charges of the "knock" spell.
