Will the New Spell System Spell Lists be Retroactive?

Post by Hviti » Mon Feb 27, 2006 12:37 am

When the spell lists for each guild are changed with the new spell system (assuming they are, that is), will spells that a character knows that aren't on his/her guild list anymore be removed from that character or will they be held on as "other spells known"?

I personally hope that they will be removed. Old characters already have a stat-based advantage over newer ones. They don't need to have a plethora of spells available to them that new players will lack as well. It may suck to lose your favorite spell, but you'll be gaining an amazing amount of new ones that should more than make up for it.

The way it was explained to me the spells you have now will go into the other known spells if the are not on the new list but you may or may not be able to cast them. This will be based on classes and spell levels.

To expand further on that:

If a caster knows a certain spell, and it is no longer on the spell list in their new guild file, it will show as "Other spells known." This was done to allow those who have had special reward spells, glory purchased spells etc, from previous chars to keep them.

However, the caveats:

1) You have to have the slot available to memorize it into: For example, rangers who learned pass plant before the update, would have the spell in their other spells known, BUT... because the spell is a 7th level spell, a ranger has no slot to memorize it in. Rangers only have up to 4th level spell slots, thus, it cannot be memorized or cast by them.

2) The spell actually still exists: A select few spells have been removed from the list entirely. If they're not in the current list of total spells, they will vanish from your character file completely.

There should be an announcement coming in very very soon.

Mask is busy testing the 200 or so new spells, checking those coded by Kregor, and fixing the many mistakes in those I coded.

So ... soon, mana shall be a thing of the past. Stay tuned for more information perhaps later today, or in the following days.
