Shipping lines of the Kingdoms

Post by Dalvyn » Wed Mar 08, 2006 5:16 pm

We currently have a few shipping lines joining Waterdeep, the Moonshae Islands, Zazesspur, and Daggerford.

I'd like to eventually extend those lines to other cities that can be reached by the sea.

And also to add/improve on the carriage lines that can help people travel between cities on the mainland.

But, for that, I need good echoes for the journey. If you have already used a ship, you know what I'm asking for: echoes describing what you see during the journey, cities passed by, and so on.

There should be approximately 6 or 7 echoes for each journey, including the echo for leaving and the echo for arriving at the destination. And that should cover a trip between two relatively close-by cities (e.g. from Waterdeep to Baldurs Gate). Longer journeys might use more trips, or be composed of smaller parts (e.g. from Waterdeep to Westgate could be from Waterdeep to Berdusk first, then Berdusk to Westgate, with perhaps another stop on the road).
An example, from Baldur's Gate to Alaron, though echoes with more information about what people could see and so on would be better.

Code: Select all

mpecho {70}The Wave Reaver leaves the docks of Baldur's Gate.
mpat 16353 mpecho {70}You feel the Wave Reaver move as it leaves the docks of Baldur's Gate.

mpecho {70}The Wave Reaver slowly leaves the docks of Baldur's Gate.
mpat 16353 mpecho {70}The Wave Reaver slowly leaves the docks of Baldur's Gate.

mpecho {70}The Wave Reaver sets sails north along the Sword Coast.
mpat 16353 mpecho {70}The Wave Reaver sets sails north along the Sword Coast.

mpecho {70}The Wave Reaver sails west through the Sea of Swords.
mpat 16353 mpecho {70}The Wave Reaver sails west towards the Sea of Swords.

mpecho {70}The island of Alaron can be seen in the distance.
mpat 16353 mpecho {70}The island of Alaron can be seen in the distance through the port holes.

mpecho {70}The Wave Reaver pulls into to the Holyhead Docks and the crew starts to load new cargo.
mpat 16353 mpecho {70}The Wave Reaver pulls into the Holyhead Docks.
mpat 1624 mpecho {70}The Wave Reaver pulls into dock and the crew starts to load new cargo.
mpat 1795 mpareaecho {70}The Wave Reaver enters the docks.
Note that, in this case, there are sometimes several echoes: one for those inside the ship (no windows heh), one for those up on the ship's deck, and sometimes one for those on the docks. For carriages, there would be only one set of echoes (those in the carriage would be assumed to look through the windows), plus eventually a leaving/arriving echoes for those who stand in the city, near the carriage stop point.
If you are interested in making one such set of echoes (you should then make two sets: one for each direction), please post below which one you would like to work on.

Feel free to also suggest new shipping/carriage lines, indicating what cities they would pass by.

Once I have enough answer, I'll pick up the lines that will we added and add them.

Thanks for the contributions.

I'm happy to do echoes for a coah line across he kingdoms and a line from Tantras to Westgate if need be.
Justice is not neccesarily honourable, it is a tolerable business, in essence you tolerate honour until it impedes justice, then you do what is right.

Spelling is not necessarily correct :)

I would be happy to do any echos, by coach or by boat. Anything that is available... I would be glad to do my part in the game...

*mumbles* it's about time i do something

I'd be happy to help with a set too-- the Zazzespur/Waterdeep connection, unless there's another that needs doing more. Is there somewhere I can look up which code lines apply to people in which places (on the docks, in the boat, on deck, etc.)?

Is the game time that it takes to go from place to place different depending on distance?

It only depend on the number of echoes for the moment (that and how quickly the random programs trigger).

I did one of those caravan routes and I noticed that the generic Waterdeep echo (you hear the march of the city watch) when I was nearing a city on the other side of the continent.

Just FYI,
