being caught flat-footed is always a bad idea - but especially by a rogue/thief. Coup de Grace increases the damage of backstab when used against the sleeping, resting, meditating, stunned, and blinded.

Perhaps coup de grace isn't the best word for this feat, but I can definately see the reasoning behind this. If you're a rogue and you come across a sleeping/meditating/blind person(The last condition without the blind-fight feat, I would say) you can take a bit more time to decide where you want to jam that nice sharp thing in their back, and get just the right spot to make them go "ouch." I'm not sure if such an effect is already coded in backstab, however. If not, I like this idea.

Actually, your description is pretty darn close to the description of Sneak Attack in D&D. Sneak attack and Backstab have a few differences, but I think Backstab is meant to replace sneak attack. So, I guess Backstab might be close enough here. Too bad it still has a good chance of missing at low levels (I can't believe I missed backstabbing a sleeping goblin).
I actually got the term from Neverwinter Nights, but that's where you are allowed to kill a sleeping character in one hit...
I've never really understood how the initiative system works. How much more initiative might you get if you attack a waking, resting, and sleeping character? (The same applies to characters that know you are there and those not aware of your existence?)
