Wild gnomes / forest gnomes
Im trying to find more information on wild gnomes. Is there such a thing etc. etc.? This wild type gnome I speak of might be a ranger type, though savage. Not Malar material but not a civilized being. Any ideas.. thoughts.. threats?
Cret, Races of Faerun goes into detailed description of Forest Gnomes.
Here's a little taste of it,
"If deep gnomes are thought by some the black sheep of the gnome family (a title more fittingly reserved for the spriggans) then forest gnomes are the shy cousins. They are so reclusive that many times bigger people have "discovered" them, only to find that the forest gnomes have been living nearby for centuries. Forest Gnomes are quiet and painfully shy that they go to great lengths to avoid contact with others unless there is a great need to break their silence" Page 52
A few facts..
Forest gnomes are extremely private and reserved, they love the forest and see themselves as caretakers.
They average about 2 to 2 1/2 feet tall and even the tallest is under 3 feet. Weigh in at 25-30 pounds, and wear their hair and beards unbound which often go down to their feet. They live about 400 years on average.
Forest gnomes encountered outside their of their homes are illusionists, although clerics and druids sometimes show themselves.
They are not hunters, Forest Gnomes gather for food which means they hardly ever eat meat.
Forest Gnomes can speak with animals at will, and all forest gnomes are literate.
3e racial stuff..
+4 on hide checks (+8 in Forest settings, includes small size bonus)
+1 racial bonus on attacks against kobolds, orcs, goblinoids, and reptilian humanoids
Automatic languages: common, gnome, sylvan.
Bonus languages: Draconic, elven, goblin, halfling, treant, orc
spell-like abilities: At will - pass without a trace, speak with animals. Treat these abilities as cast by a druid of the same level.
Level adjustment: +1
Dieties: Baervan Wildwanderer and Segojan Earthcaller
Relations with others:
Those that encounter outsiders prefer wood and wild elves, and ghostwise halflings to all other races namely due to the shared bond with nature.
Blundgeoning weapons are favored and they despise axes and those who use them.
Animal friends are those near their own size such as foxes (David the gnome anyone?) and squirrels.
There's plenty more as well, and Faiths and Pantheons of course has entries on the two gods the forest gnomes revere the most as well as their hated enemy, Urdlen.
