Advaaanced levitate!

Post by Levine » Fri Apr 28, 2006 12:39 pm

I've found that in many RPs, wizards are able to levitate things about using smotes. Small things, as far as I've seen.

And sometimes they have to lift really heavy things (like corpses or really stuffed packs which they cannot lift) over a pretty long distance. But in such cases, I've seen the wizards dragging those things, and I was thinking of an advancement of (or addition to, perhaps) the levitate spell.

syntax: cast 'levitate' <object name>

It would work the EXACT same way, just that something like this-

>look
Lily is standing here.
(levitating) An egg is levitating about here.

-would be seen.

Does the spell wear off?

Yep, eventually. It works the same way as when you cast levitate on a PC or mob.

Can "land" be applied to the object?

Definitely! Simply type "<object name> land".

Can more than one object be levitated at any given moment?

Nope, don't think it should.

Are these levitated objects subject to theft?

Technically, yes. But.. I think its best to discuss this one.

Will the object still be shown in your inventory?

Nah, doesn't make sense for it to.

Does levitating the object require inventory space?

One. And at least one hand must be free throughout the spell's life span.

Can we "look" at them?

Mhm. So.. "show" is somehow in this idea. If you "look" at the levitating object, I suppose you'll see its description, followed by the "It can be..." stuff.

How to prevent abuse since the spell is cast only once?

Make it cost a small amount of movement points for every move? More in the wilderness, less in cities.. Like how it works now. But overall, less than what the wizard usually has to endure without levitating the object.

Agreements, disagreements? Thoughts, suggestions?

Open to them. *beams*

- gissy :D

(...gosh, what's with me and questions tonight?)
Must I kill them
To make them lie still

Sounds alot like the first level spell Tenser's Floating Disk from Second Edition AD&D. The spell was great for carrying fallen party members and extra loot back to camp, as well as moving stuff around in a dungeon.

Below is taken word for word directly from the Second Edition AD&D Player's Handbook.

Tenser's Floating Disc
(Evocation)

Range: 20 Yards
Components: V, S, M
Duration: 3 turns + 1 turn/level
Casting Time: 1
Area of Effect: Special
Saving Throw: None

With this spell, the caster creates the slightly concave, circular plane of force known as Tenser's Floating Disc (after the famed wizard whose greed and ability to locate treasure are well known). The disc is 3 feet in diameter and holds 100 pounds of weight per level of the wizard casting the spell. The disc floats approximately 3 feet above the ground at all times and remains level. It floats along horizontally within its range of 20 yards at the command of the caster, and will accompany him at a movement rate of no more than 6. If unguided, it maintains a constant interval of 6 feet between itself and the wizard. If the spellcaster moves beyond range (by moving faster, by such means as a teleport spell, or by trying to take the disc more than 3 feet from the surface beneath it), or if the spell duration expires, the floating disc winks otu of existence, and whatever it was supporting crashes to the surface beneath it.
The Material component of the spell is a drop of mercury.

(Edit: For people who haven't played Second Edition AD&D, a movement rate of 6 is the base movement rate of an unencumbered Dwarf, Gnome, or Halfling)

Floating Disk is a coded spell in FK. Check out help floating disk.
