Rangers and animal instinct

Post by Scylere » Sun Aug 06, 2006 11:39 pm

I know it is instinct for a snake or bear or something to attack a person who has invaded their territory, but it seems odd when a ranger is attacked by animals. I was recently wandering with a ranger and a bunch of snakes just randomly attacked.

Would it be more feasible if rangers were not attacked by animals?

Well, just because he is a ranger, doesnt mean an animal wouldnt feel threatened by him. Just look at Steve Irwin.
Glim asks Gwain 'Can I be on the watch?!?'
Gwain raises an eyebrow.
Gwain seems to display a look of complete horror for a second...

Ranger's just don't automatically get along with all animals. What they do get is a check that isn't unlike a diplomacy check with a person (obviously, via table top) - and even then the ranger would have to be able to study the animal before hand and the animal study him.

In a rp situation, you're probably better off "look"ing for the snake in adjacent squares and avoid it, but while by yourself, just gloss over those parts :)

Wild Empathy checks. Good stuff. :D

When you're by yourself, it's not such a big deal. However, it's really embarassing when you walk into Ardeep forest and all your fellow rangers and druids get to watch you pummel a bumble bee into unconsciousness right when you walk in. Trust me; it's happened to me before.

Perhaps rangers and druids should get a wild empathy check. That way, those more in tune with nature are less likely to get randomly mauled. Just a thought.
