Creation of the Code Council

Post by Mask » Mon Sep 11, 2006 8:13 pm

Hi folks,

We are in the midst of something of a re-organisation of how we administrate FK. This has resulted in the creation of 4 councils, each governing different aspects of the game. These are: The player council, responsible for taking care of the players of the game. The Builder council, responsible for enlarging and improving the world of FK. The Roleplay council, responsible for running RPs both large and small. And finally, the Code council, responsible for maintaining and updating the hard code.

Each council has different 'ranks' ranging from apprentice, journeyman, expert, master and Grandmaster. Each rank brings different responsibilities and privileges, which increase with your rank in the council. These are still being finalised, but the general idea is to give more access to more privileges to more people.

I am the 'Grandmaster' of the Code Council, and have the following ideas for how the various ranks might work:

Apprentice: Contribute to discussions on improving current code and how to implement new functionality. Assist in the development of our help files.

Journeyman: Assist in the testing of existing and new functionality, and suggest ways that code which is in development can be modified or improved. Assist in the management of our bug database.

Expert: Assist in the development of new functionality in C++, C, Java and SQL. Contribute to high level discussions on implementation issues.

Master: Have commit rights to check code into FK.

Grandmaster: Manage all aspects of the code council and act as the over-all architect of the code base.

If you are interested in joining the code council, please send me a PM and give me some idea of where both your interests and talents lie. To see if you are serious, we will ask you to help fill in some blanks in our help files :-)

The other councils will shortly be opening their doors, I imagine, but I thought I would try and pre-empt them and get first pick...

Cheers!

Martin

You can. You will be a different rank in each. Or the same, who knows. But you could be an expert in code council and an apprentice in builders and player, and a master in roleplay, etcetc.
Beshaba potatoes.

Yes, you can be in multiple councils, but you should pick a 'primary' council, in which you have the most interest...

Right I was hoping to pull possible restrictions from his head that he might be debating like someone might be an expert in 3 of the councils but that may be alot of resposibilites. So I was searching for a possible restriction to prevent overload on one person albeit that may want to be expert in all three it may seem like a large amount to dedicate.

Rereading this post i want to make clear that im not looking for a cap on how much you can give back to the game.
