Help on cooking

Post by Gregal » Thu Sep 28, 2006 7:35 pm

Well I have been trying to find out ICly how to do it, but nobody seems to know. I know that cooking has been added, I have bought all the supplies, but I do not know the syntax for cooking or making anything. Any help would be appreciated.

water and flour "MIX" = dough
dough + fire + "COOK" = bread

You just have to examine the objects sold in the shop and you will get all the keywords.

The following keywords are used:
- boil
- flatten
- bake
- mix
- place

Most objects used in cooking have an extra description, which means that you have to type "examine (keyword)", while typing the (keyword) in full [side note for help writers: it would be good to add a comment saying that keywords have to be typed in full for "examine" and "look" on objects, abbreviations won't work].

also, "slice" or "cut" to chop up the apples or whatever

Right, I forgot that one (since it's in a separate area file).

Is there anyway we can add items to this cooking file? There are fruits and vegetables that it does not work with.

I tested most every type of fruit out there.... it does not work with food that is from the prayer "create food"

What items are not working?

Oranges from Westgate, grapes from westgate, starfruit, pear and lemons work. Potatos also are not coming up as a vegetable when you try to make soup.

Hi Saurel - The cooking programs are a bit of a novelty, and are rather particular. They will only function on certain input materials, and you kind of have to discover them by trial and error, or by speaking with an experienced chef in-character. (That is, OOCly, a PC that has already figured this stuff out!) I'll tell you this much, OOC:
Have fun exploring, Saurel!

For most area-based programs, when "water" is required, you need to have "a flask of water".

The language used to make those programs is quite limited, so it's next to impossible to check for all kinds of water container. "A flask of water" is always a safe bet though.

Bug, mentioned previously in this thread, but seems to have been ignored.

I try to cook dough. I fail. The leftover crap is a piece of burned MEAT. (Not dough or bread).

I decide to cook (destroy) the burned meat and managed to create a slice of cooked meat (edible). Not bad for flour and water.

Cook always produces meat-- the keyword you'd actually use to cook other items is bake.
