packrat

Post by Scylere » Mon Oct 23, 2006 1:48 am

This would be extra, so not necessary.

I was thinking about packrat. I was wondering if the packrat feat could have these abilities.

more items carried
more carry weight
more items in packs, bags, etc.

The first two, I believe are already included in packrat, but it would be nice if the third could happen. A packrat would be able to stuff more things into their packs and bags. I'm not sure if that would be possible codewise. Maybe each item could be reduced by a slot?

I like your third idea about the pack... would be nice but ... hard to code because as far as i know... each pack is coded differently and has it's own code... so you would have to change every pack for this code...

I like the idea though... a pack rat would be able to be able to stuff more things into packs

I don't really agree, just because you are a packrat doesn't mean that space and matter change for you. It just means you carry and keep a lot of stuff, the more you have the more bags you need to carry. Regardless of wether you are a packrat or not, only so much will fit in a bag, unless it is a bag of holding. Which would be really cool to have in game.

Theres a flip side to that. Ever seen someone whos never or hardly traveled before try and pack a suitcase? Packing to maximize quantity and
efficiency arent that far fetched in a small amounts for the feat especially when your burning two feat points for it.

Yes but anyone can try to pack like that. And the same rules still apply, only so much is going to fit into that suitcase. I know, I'm very good at making things fit into spaces that most think they wouldn't, but if someone tries they can do the same. As for burning two feat points, taking the feat is optional. If it's not worth it to you as is, then don't take it.

That is true Ceara, and if in your case...

A wizard can be as strong as a warrior if they try hard enough....

it's putting the time and effert into learning the feat of packrat that is the effert they are putting into it...

it' just don't POOF and you can be a packrat... IC you are learning and what not...

Thats what the feat points represent, that your character throughout the course of his life has spent considerable amount of time learning a specific whatever and becoming proficient in it enough for a feat. And yes while anyone can learn to pack efficiently, those who sacrifice the time and resources to put two feat points into it just can do it better than you. Alot like how specialized wizards can go to GM while Mages are capped.

I'm going to have to agree, a 'packrat' would be more likely to be able to stuff more items into packs, pouches, quivers, bags, and such, but even though I like the concept a lot, there's no need to do it. I think packrat is useful enough as is, even without this new, and incredably interesting concept added.
