This may be a repeat thread, but it begs to be discussed again.
I despise the fact that the spell memorization is not smart enough to be able to place the domain spell in teh domain spell slot without preventing you from being able to get at the rest of that level spells!
From what I figure.. if you are lets say, memorizing all your first level spells. You have to do all the non domain spells first, and then the domain as the last one! Now this doesn't sound like a problem.. but ho ho ho. .if you want to forget any of them and rememorize them, you have to remember to remove the "seal" of the domain spell off the top and then fiddle around or the system mistakes what you want to do and tells you you can't memorize this and that.
It's annoying and very complicated to remember. It doesnt' seem like it is, but for someone who has the memory of a peanut, it drives me crazy!
Is there any way we can make the commands for the spells be smart enough to figure out that if it's not a domain spell, it doesn't try to go into the domain list if you do not put Domain in front of it when you memorize it? And is it possible to maybe make it so it's just a basic list of domain slots? Kinda like level 1, 2, 3.. that it just gives you an extra spell slot for each level for your domain and gives yo uaccess to those domain spells as you raise in levels.
I dunno. Just a suggestion. But It's been over a year since the spell system was put in and it's still confusing!

Re: Spell Memorization
Although it IS confusing and frustrating most of the times... but it was not always this way... it was changed. You also can not memorize 100% of your slots... I do not know why but you just can'tMariela wrote:It's been over a year since the spell system was put in and it's still confusing!

I have gotten all my spell slots to fill. Wether or not I can mediate them all up to 100% I have no idea.
What I do know is that it's highly frustrating trying to do the dance of the spell memorization!

There's a few tips I have learned over time such that I never have much of a problem with my spell slots after thinking about it for a moment. Here are the two common problems I think people tend to have.
1. You were wearing an item that increased spell slots, memorized a spell with it, then removed the item. In a case like this, the spell still remains memorized, you just don't see it, which means that even if you forget other spells on that level, you might still have that one there, and trying to memorize another spell to fill up your empty slot on that level might not work. Sometimes the only way to deal with this is to forget all your spells or re-wear the item which increased your spell slots (this could also be caused by a spell like sagacity or mnemonic enhancer which grants increased numbers of spell slots commiserate with the increased stat score) and see what you have memorized, then fix the problem. You can also forget all your spells altogether and restart from scratch.
2. You keep getting the message that you can only use a domain spell for that slot, even though you know the slot is open. The reason for this might be that you already have a domain slot open. An example of this is that I have on one of my characters, invis as a domain spell. I also have it as a regular spell, and I have memorized it higher than its level to extend the spell in the past, say at fourth level. Now if I add a new spell slot to fourth level, not only will I have to forget whatever spell was actually filling the domain spell slot, I will have to forget every spell at that level which is a domain spell at any level before I can fill that domain spell slot.
I know that sounds confusing, but basically, if you're having trouble filling a slot due to domain differences, first make sure you don't have hidden spells. Then forget whatever is in the last slot. Then forget any other domain spells you have at that level, even if you didn't memorize them as domain spells, merely as normal spells. Then memorize your domain spell, which should go in its proper slot. Then you can memorize your others spells normally. This has always worked for me and I can always memorize 100% of my spells without problem.

That is all and good except when you don't have all those slots filled up and what the "end" slot is is subject to interpretation. I don't know about anyone else, but if I have any slot blank, it slides my Domain spells up and down the listing.
It is unwieldy and not very play friendly. My point is that there is no way to make it a bit more simplier more able to be "idiot proof?"
I am a fairly large idiot.. I crave simple!

Thank you... it was on my priest that I was having trouble with my slots... there are 2-3 that i can not get to fill... no matter how i work it outNedylene wrote:Mmm.. testing around, I CAN fill all my spell slots as a wizard type. As priest type, on all of my priests... i cannot memorize all of my spells no matter how I hash it. There is always one or two levels, sometimes three that I will have empty spell slots that will not let me fill them.
