If you have an area ready or under construction, please feel free to try to area-check it with the following program. Note that it's beta, that it will work only on Windows, and that (though the initial goal was to allow people to also use it to build areas) it should only be used to check areas, not to build them (many functionalities are not coded). I'm still providing this version since the area check part of it should work.
Depending on my free time, I might work on a Java version that would be more portable.
1. You can get the file here and save it to some place on your computer.
2. Start AreaBuilder.exe.
3. You first need to load FKBIT.LST. Either click on the "Load FKBIT.LST" button or choose that option from the first menu, then indicate where the FKBIT.LST file can be found. If you do not have it, you can get it here.
4. Click the "Open Area File" button or choose the "Open" option from the menu and choose the file you want to check.
5. The comments and bugs are reported under the "Logs" tab.
(6. If you have an area loaded/checked, you can take a look at the other tabs, they should let you examine the contents of your file, but many parts are not fully coded/tested).
------------
Please report any bug you find on this thread. Depending on how much time it would take to fix them, I'll do it.

This area checker should spot many more bugs than FKBuilder or whatever was used before.
Amongst other things, it checks that all mobs are speaking only one language, that the correct types of flags are used at the right spot, and so on. It's still not 100% error proof, but it should spot more mistakes.

Re: Temporary area checker program
How do we feel about this being used nearly three years later? Have there been any significant changes to the mud that will clash with this? Personally, if the next area we're coming up with (no, it hasn't been applied for yet) turns into what I think it will, this will be amazing.
If FKBIT.LST should be updated first, is that easy? I've only glossed over it, is there something I can do to update it so the staff doesn't have to be troubled with it? Whatever the case, it may be years late, but this is excellent, Christophe.

Re: Temporary area checker program
We should standardise on one 'checker' program, ideally one which rejects uploads to the game before making them available for update into the game. This means it should be runnable on a web server, ideally in PHP.
I am happy to put a vague skeleton of this in place if others can help me complete and perfect it.
