Inspecting Shop Items

Post by Gideon » Tue Jun 19, 2007 11:15 am

I was just wondering if there was a way to examine items in a shop's list. Because for example I was wondering what type of weapon a 'Wooden Cudgel' was before I bought it so I don't waste money(I'm guessing it's a club-type, but I'm not sure and don't want to waste money if I'm wrong). If there isn't already a way to examine an item in a shop's list before you buy it, I think it could be added because most traders/merchants/etc would usually let a customer inspect their wares before they purchase it. Maybe make a command named 'inspect list <item>' that could do this if there isn't already a way.

examine item-name merchant-name

For example:

Code: Select all

A wild elf ranger stands guard here.

*list*

Ok.
Item Price
 1) a silver bastard sword with a 14 platinum, 4 gold, 3 silver, 2 copper
 2) a steel bastard sword 9 platinum, 4 gold, 1 electrum, 6 copper
 3) a gladius 2 platinum, 4 gold, 1 silver, 6 copper
 4) a two-handed sword 14 platinum, 1 electrum, 3 silver

*examine bastard wild*

It belongs to the double-edged blades category of weapons
  It is in perfect condition.
It can be picked up, held, held in both hands, worn on the belt.
It cannot be worn with any other armour.
It is medium in size.
It is made of silver and weighs about 10 pounds.
Hope this helps.

Yep, I had the same problem with a big warhammer. Thought it was a short spikes weapon... but guess what? It was a wasted money weapon type...

'Help list' has the commands to examine objects in a shop keepers inventory, as well as how to look at the inventory when there are multiple merchants in one room. Great stuff.

So why doesn't it work for pets and mounts and familiars? It USED to...
Can't examine any animals for some reason...

I don't think it ever worked for pets.

Pet shops are completely different from object shops.

In an object shop, you have a mob with objects in its inventory.

In a pet shop, the pets are actually stored in a closed-off room (they can't be stored in a mob's inventory).

Okay.. I was pretty sure I got to examine mounts somewhere.. more than likely though.. it was at the Stables near the Lucky Drunk where he will TELL you about his mounts...Shame not all pet and familiar and mount sellers don't do that.....
