Time played vs level?

Post by Ceara » Tue Jul 24, 2007 3:41 pm

Has there been a time played requirement to increase exp or level?
I have noticed on two new characters I can kill dummy after dummy and my exp level won't move at all and this is after at least an hour. I go out and rp a bit or go exploring and come back and then I start getting exp again but it's after quite some time.
This last instance I'm at the same exp level I was at when I had 8 hours played. I'm now at 12 hours played and though I did do rping and wandering in those four hours I still killed bandits and dummies and my exp level still has not moved.
If not then perhaps it is a bug.

I'm not aware of an hour to level requirement and it's not something that has been discussed for implementing.

If other players could look over their newer characters and see if any kind of pattern emerges in this possible bug, that would be very helpful

Thankies
I'll try to keep an eye on what patterns there are. After I hit 13 hours at lvl 6 I started gaining exp again.

Another possibility though I presume this would have already been changed. In some muds once you kill the same creature so many times you stop getting exp for it until you go kill something else for a while, then you will stop getting exp for the new mob and if you go back to the old mob you will start getting exp again. This 'cache' could also be cleared by passage of time possibly.

I've noticed this as well.

I had thought that it might have something to do with the level of the mobs as I stopped seeming to gain exp when I hit level 6.

I grouped with another lowbie (lvl 5) to see if this improved it and there was no noticeable results...

I've seen this even on a high-level character, or at least I think I have-- a particular character of mine got to level 50 by killing about six (less powerful than the PC) dummies maybe 10-20 times over, with a bunch of RP in between. The progression from 48-50 took a very short "total killing time," whereas when the same character had been around level 20-25 and needed to get more powerful to avoid being complete dog meat during an RP, it took a lot more time killing of mobs stronger than her to get up to 25-30.

I'm positive it's not time based. It just feels that way because you can't see your %.

First big xp milestone is around 20% then around 33% then 50% then 77% then 95% (with belows, and aboves buffering in between). Obviously these aren't exact because i can't see them - but the reason it feels like you aren't gaining xp, or that you gain xp quicker after time, is because it takes longer to hit the first milestone.

I imagine if you added 6 more xp plateaus, the perception would disappear. Just what I came up with to explain the perceived notion it's time based...I don't know if that's what is causing this particular perception, but I'm positive it isn't time based.
Listen up! People pay good money to see this movie! When they go out to a theater they want cold sodas, hot popcorn, and no monsters in the projection booth! Do I have to come up there myself? Do you think the Gremsters can stand up to the Hulkster?

I couldn't have put what Horace said any better. There is no time spent per level restriction.
