The Ilmater Donation Basket?

Post by Adabelle » Tue Oct 16, 2007 9:30 pm

How many times have you been unable to sell an item so you just give it to the Merchant because, well, you are a nice guy and you don't need it. Those Merchants must be racking in the money. No overhead!

Why not have donation baskets at temples of Ilmater. It is an unmovable container that you can add items to and take items from that does not clear at reload.

Or you could give them to an Ilmateri PC... *innocent whistle*

I was hoping for a more fluid exchange. Where a character can drop things off at their convenience and not have to wait for a PC follower of Ilmater to be around. I have only met two or three such PCs and you all have lives. We can not expect you to be on 24 hours a day. =)

Ms. Spell-your-face is a level 10 wizardess... who happends to be played by the same person. SHe needs items bad to get strong..

A donates
B collects

You can't? Phew, well that's a relief...

But sorry, my earlier post was more of a joke, I should have posted something more substantial along with it. In all honesty I wholeheartedly support something like this, or if you want to make a donation box for younger adventurers it could be supported by the church of Tymora, since she's the goddess of adventurers.

The items could perhaps have a tag on them to show who donated them and if anyone from the same account were to use or wear those items then the self-destruct mechanism would go off.

Cmon, you Gondars can make self destruct mechanisms, cant you?!?
Glim asks Gwain 'Can I be on the watch?!?'
Gwain raises an eyebrow.
Gwain seems to display a look of complete horror for a second...

Is there currently anything to stop a player from dropping things from one character and picking them up with another?

It is much the same thing. Both are very bad and something that would be punished if observed.

What it could be done is a Tymoran "Donation" Basket, you place the item in the basket and it goes to the shopkeeper inventory whom sell it a pretty reasonable prize like something between 50% and 75% of what it could cost buying it from a regular shopkeeper.

Item dropping (the act of putting items/coin/etc somewhere and picking up with an alt) is a very frowned upon offense, which is one reason things like guild storerooms, etc, are used rarely in building, and only with approval from the building admins.

We have code at our disposal to actually DO something like this suggestion, but it would be something the team would have to discuss among themselves as to whether we could trust something like this to be put in self-service. And we tend to be a superstitious, err on the side of cautious lot. :)

Similar reasons are why the magical post, for example, the box holds very little weight, so that weapons/tons of coins/etc do not get piled in one and then mailed to an alt. Of course, even with the little amount you can put in one, it would still be a strikeable offense to do it.

The balance has to be met in how far trust can be measured. It's a very noble, generous suggestion, that could be easily abused with the wrong intentions, whether through ignorance or genuine malice.

Is there a way to track what accounts are giving and taking things? Some kind of log, the item, which account donated it and account took it. Some kind of check and balance so that you all feel comfortable and we get what I think is a cool RP thing.

Gods want faithful, the churches try to draw faithful and spread the ideals.

The church of Tymora has the gambling hall, the church of Kelemvor has the conservatory. Faith is a very important thing in FR and seems even MORE important in FK. I would like to see more church specific things.

(Like a yearly Bazaar at the temple of Waukeen that I mentioned in the events forum =p)

I have seen not one, not two but many muds with this donation system and know what? I have not found any useful items anywhere, because players donate their trash. If something is valuable, they usually keep it. Do you want garbage heap in the temple of Ilmater?

Just speaking my point of view..
NONE of my characters would donate trash. Since it can't do much for me..why donate it to someone who I know can't use it?
But..like some say. One persons trash is anothers treasure.

I don't think their is any coded trash or rubbish in the game, people even quest desperately for for manure sometimes...
May you find the knowledge you seek. If you find something else, it is still knowledge, and as such, still a gain.

I've played games in the past that had a command similar in effect to the "sacrifice" command here, used on items, that allowed a PC to donate items. They'd be spirited away to a donation box near the newbie section of the MUD, and could be raided by new players.

I doubt something like that in that exact form would work in FK, but maybe something more mundane. A container that stores items, placed near newbie temples (perhaps just outside them, so they can only be reached once you've secured approval), where PCs can place whatever spare items they have.

Or...if you're a certain priest I know...you will follow horses and griffons collecting the manure they drop...
Not saying any names...

I think he's using that manure to keep away the ladies... when I saw him last, it seems that it was working.

I've also seen said priest giving some of Gwain's prune juice to griffons... aeriel attack will have a whole new meaning ...
