A little side note. One spell I am particular to is “barkskin” cause it allows me to RP changing the pc's apearance with out negative effects and out comes like other morphing spells. The RP is nice but once the subect leaves he/she is just the same with on lingering effect except the added protection. Now this might be too much to ask for a single spell and purpose but could you please keep it some where in the todo box for one of those “nothing to do I'm bored nights.”
Everyone sees Mystra with a barkskin spell as:
Mystra with green hair is standing here. This would be the only clue that Barkskin is present since the spell is physical and not an aura.
And this way being before the “IS” a pose would still allow the “green hair” to show through.
Same thing can be done with stoneskin but with grey hair instead of green.

Seren's idea would include a magical aura for barkskin. I don't like the idea about barkskin simply because that is something that can be set into someone's pose, if the person so chooses to play it out so.
I think the original subject is a good idea, and should be discussed and explained more.

Beshaba potatoes.
There was a thread somewhere on the old boards about spell effects that have physical changes being showed as part of player status when someone looks at an affected player - not sure where that went, but there were pros and cons to that if someone can find the link
But I wouldn't like to see forced physical affects like "green hair" introduced, considering it won't take into account helms or full-body robes, and so forth.
The original idea I like, it would be good to bring in...would detect magic also give the caster their aura? So anyone who is detecting magic would also show up with the affect?

I've seen adjectives that would be hidden by the PC's cloths, so I though this would be taken the same way. But my idea goes to the side of “sex change” light, changing you a bit but not drastically. And kinda fun for a miffed druid to repremand someone by giving them a punk look, minus a mohawk.
How about instead of adding the the adjective it replaces it with:
A tall male human to A green haired with rough brown skin male human. And if you knew the PC as Fred, you would see Fred is standing here but when you glanced at him you'd get the temp adjective. And what ever was last cast on him is what shows through. So if fred had barskin, stoneskin and troll vigor cast on him in that order, then you wound just see his adjective as A troll faced male human.

I believe that the concrete truth is that is we coded a short for every spell there was in the game, there would be a sudden hault on areas, classes, and faithes. Not to mention, what would you do for a mage that had 10 spells on? Ranging from armour to stone skin?
I think Seren was simply asking for a generic one; One that said "Hey, I have a spell casted on me --> Magic aura over here"

I agree with Rhelian and Cyric - although I'm no fan of him. There is no reason to show every single spell a character has on him. A character can RP out the various spells that he has on him if he wishes to. But I support Seren's basic idea... a person with enchantments on him show a magic aura. (should this apply to all other -detect- spells as well? I'm imagining one group of people suspecting each other because they all have magic auras, and all the enchantment each one has on them is a detect magic.)

RE: Detect Magic/Magic Aura
I agree with Seren and think it's a good idea. Someone who is detecting magic should be able to detect if someone/thing is enchanted in some way.
