How are faith managers made?
Couldn't decide where this belong, so move it if necessary.
This came up in a recent discussion. How exactly are faith managers made, or at least faith members granted permission/ability to faith new members? If there is a thread on this, please point it out to me. I found it odd that I couldn't answer such a simple question.
This thread is also sparked by personal consideration. Though I am not on daily, Nysan is the second highest ranked member on his 'faith list'. I am on the forums daily however and answer PMs usually same day they are sent. With the current faith manager fingered at logging in last in July, I find I have alot of questions I cannot answer on the subject.
So, to put the question simply: "who, what, where, when, why?"

From watching and seeing friends who are Faith managers or FM for a shorter term. Are those in a faith who rp very well. Are helpful with thier fellow faith members and knowledgeable and around often enough to deal with the flow of hopefuls. Might be more criteria this is just what i think i figured out by observation!
I am but a tree te da lee lee
This is how -I- feel.
Faith managers are made from -active- players who play a character because they want to play it. By this I mean, they're not someone who looks at the gods and says "Oh, Bob has no faith manager, I think I'll make a new follower of them.". They're someone who comes up with a character concept they're excited to play, and plays their character true to that. They don't worry about the position, they're happy to play, and pleasantly surprised when they recieve the position.
They are people who roleplay well, and often, not just hack and slash. They learn about their gods both IC and OOC until after time their character grows with said knowledge, making them ready to become a faith manager.
They are players without strikes, who have not have confrontation with any member of the mud. Snapping at immortals, a player council member, or even just another player in osays excessively.
They are -characters- that are capable of running a faith, meeting hopefuls, teaching them and aiding them.
Bottom line:
A character is a candidate for faith manager when they character is played simply to enjoy the character. When you're really into a character, you play it often, you know about your god and you're happy enough just having that shiney symbol around your neck.

Beshaba potatoes.
Only commented on myself because I seem to be the highest active member on the faith list and I am easily reached on the forums. If the faith has active members that can faith, happy to hear it, I can answer some questions then. If not, tossed the hat in the ring.
Still, don't like questions I cannot answer.
Edit: I'll take 'imm picked based on character actions and not an application based system' as the answer to the general question then.

Another thing is that if a faith manager is going to be unable to commit the same amount of time to the MUD anymore, they should be allowed to "choose a successor", or something along that line.

There is also the problem that some of the FM's do not have that convienent white tag before their names either.
Sooo soemtimes it is VERY hard to find them.

I very much agree with Mariela's point, the non-priest faith-managers look like "normal" PC at the who-list if they haven't got something in their title that hints to their rank.

The white titles are 2nd edition specialist priest titles, so they would not be appropriate for non-priests.
In the first instance, we prefer an FM to be a priest but if a non-priest is on regularly and has shown themselves to be responsible and reliable then they will likely be offered the role.
As Mele said, some of the elements of the choice come down to OOC considerations; as much of the work of the FM involves being available to other players and putting their needs before your own.
Over time as player's wax and wane in which characters they play and/or how often they are able to log in some faiths can become neglected and result in the situation Nysan describes above.
Personally, I'm not averse to players pointing out a lack of FM activity and asking for Imm assistance. Faithing should not be a bar to to a character's play and a helpful nod from the playerbase can often prompt us to run a faithing event or look at taking on new FMs.

I think non-priest FMs should get the white titles.
The HP should get titles that are glowing in neon lights with font twice as large, and um, free candy as well.
Seriously though...
Aside from the people that enter the market square and the guards bow to them, it is difficult to find out who are Faith Managers. Perhaps if the FMs do not get the white titles, perhaps we can have a help file of who are the FM for diety?
I have noticed lately that more HP are logging on, which is good to see.

Mouat, there are helpfiles for every faith manager already. Have been for... many years.

Faith managers not on the helpfiles should submit their biography to be placed in the helpfiles.

Now that the snow has allowed me back on the net... This topic jumped in a direction I didn't expect, funny how that happens.
A few things then:
Since people seem interested in those titles on non-priest faith managers, perhaps we can change those out for simple -Faith Manager- titles and leave the names to be used in titles? Would allow folks to see the non-priest FMs just as easy as priest ones. *shrug*
I consider faithing to be both OOC and IC since in FR, any faith member, usually a priest type, can bring someone into the faith but in FK we restrict it to certain members. Is there a way to find out about which members can faith or requesting adding a more active FM OOC, such as application email or something? Nysan's situation aside, I am rather curious if there is OOC ways to learn these things... especially in faith with few or hard to locate ranking members.

Most of the deities have high-ranking titles for non-priest members; or even if they don't, we have a very creative staff and playerbase that can do the job. I guess I'm a little biased to say, "Hey, give non-priest FMs white titles," but I honestly think it would make it a little easier. I've noticed just in my dealings with FM-ship or whatnot, that most of the Kelemvor hopefuls flock to Rynn, my partner in crime - I don't know if that's the white title, or maybe his time schedule, but it'd probably help.
Jamais arriere.
