Player Stories for Webpage

Post by Lerytha » Thu Dec 06, 2007 5:49 pm

Now we're jumping up the ranks of TMC, and may draw more players into our midst, I was wondering if it might be a good time to add a section for player stories or artwork, to show the themes of the MUD? That is, the roleplay-intensive, IC-driven plots...

How can we do this through the webpage?

Well, there used to be stories of characters in the old website, and if people would like me to set aside some time to write short stories based on previous roleplays or just about their characters, I'd love to do so.

So basically, I'm willing to write up things to add to the theme of the MUD.

The main question is, do you all think its worth it?

Only if you write many long, drawn-out tales of the adventures of Hrosskell and Co.. Otherwise, I'd say it wouldn't be much of a success.

But seriously, I think this sounds like a great idea, and if you're willing to do it, then go for it. Also, if you need a little help, I like to write sometimes.

Selveem's story is waiting to be written as transcribed by Kalonice.

I believe she will request the book made available for purchase via submission as Bard publication.

I would really like to see those in-game books more than on a web site. I do think that old, established characters should also have a help file to represent them. It should just be a brief summary of who the character is.

In-game books are good as well, I'm just on about additional things. Maybe longer stories that don't fit in in-game publications (because lets face it, although they can theoretically go on forever, you can't be as eloquent as you'd like to be in a MUD publication). Maybe stories that actually never happened in the MUD, but which nonetheless add something to the "feel" of the place, when someone from outside reads it.

I know when I was surfing the web for a new MUD to play, the hero stories online here made me aware that interesting things were happening, such as trials, and that there were characters on here who had well-thought-out and well-written backstories (I remember the story about Blythe, and the one about Longstrider - which is I believe available on the forums through Kingdom's Journal).

I would love to see the Kingdom's Journal as a web-page, really, too. :) Maybe anything written could go there?

I think we should stress that many female wizards dress while invis. It might tempt some younger recruits to play here... *cough*

If they do it while invisible... what's the point?

I think that's the fourth or fifth time you've mentioned that in one of your posts Mouat. You need to get out more ;)

What about examples of RP? I think this would help new players, as well as draw them in.

I have an RP with an infernal lawyer I've struggled to put into a book, but it's too long and just looses too much in the summarizing. Examples of funny, serious, etc. RP? Too much IC info, even if from long ago?

Perhaps follow each up with a self-critique, things you might have done differently or better?
